~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

We got a letter today. He sounds like he's doing ok. He misses us but he's doesn't hate it.

Hope everyone else gets theirs soon!

Comment by luvmy3brats on January 18, 2013 at 6:16pm

I was a bit bummed I didn't get one today either. But it has only been two weeks. My husband said a friend of his told him that sometimes entire groups lose letter writing privleges and phone privleges too. My son is also not a writer. On a happier note..6 more Fridays till PIR!! woohoo!! ;)

Comment by Felicia on January 18, 2013 at 6:12pm

no letter again today...I just have to remember no news is good news. he's not much of a writer so perhaps he's waiting for the I'm ok but this place sucks call

That will be greatly appreciated, jezar.  Although all of the sailors get liberty, they prefer to be with "families" in most cases.  So I hope that you are able to take some with you!

I believe that those staying at Residence and maybe even Springhill Suites are allowed to use Courtyard's pool also...they are all Marriotts.  I remember someone posting a good while back that they were staying at Residence and therefore are allowed to use Courtyard's indoor pool.  Residence has an outdoor one.

How sad to think that a young person doesn't have the support of their family - especially at this point in their still forming adulthood.  While I hate to think there are sailors without a parent to watch this emotional ceremony, I would love to adopt a few to take along with us.  While we are within a 2 hours drive from Chicago, we are still renting a car & hotel room for the weekend.  Adding on plane tickets - I see how this can become a major expense.

I purchased a refillable calling card for her to use.  I also requested free ones from callsforrecruits.org  She was told to give them to anyone who needed them.

I will make sure to let my daughter know that we will willingly adopt any sailors needing a family for the weekend.

I agree with LaLa's estimate.

If you calculate the number of Recruits initially for this TG (528+) and the amount of Members we will have by the end of BC (about 70+ hopefully) that is a fraction of the Recruits represented just on this site.

There are always some who are in Boot Camp who have no support at all :-(.

If you like write your Recruit and ask them if they know of a felllow shipmate that would like an encouraging letter and write them :-)

(I think this has been mentioned already, just a thought :-))

Some may not have family that can make it to PIR and we have seen many times where families have invited a bud or too of their Sailor along for Liberty.

One mom on my PIR GROUP had about seven of them! One did not want to go to the movies with the rest at the Gurnee Mall...so he went shopping with her! (on a side note, new Sailors may not be alone on Liberty. They must always be accompanied by someone.)

We are at thr Ramada. I booked there for the indoor pool as well. I have two other kids who may get bored after my sailor has to be back on the base, so yay for pools!! ;)

Comment by jen on January 18, 2013 at 12:24pm

Just booked the Courtyard Waukegan - graduation special of $84 / $119 for a suite - indoor pool for my son to enjoy while my sailor is showering & napping !

You are right jeszar, the RDC's work very hard to help them become Sailors. After all, if they don't succeed it looks bad on them. I am sure she will be just fine. I made and put a window decal on my car while she was at boot camp and it is still there. The recruiter gave me one too but it has faded and I need to take it off and replace it :) I don't think supporting them will jinx them in any way at all. I never was a superstitious kind of person lol.
