~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good Morning Ladies!  I would like to add to what the other veterans have said about the travel arrangements.  If you are also thinking about renting a car, check out Priceline too.  We were able to book a rental car for about $12 per day, while there.  You can set the price that you are willing to pay and every time I have done that, they have agreed to it.

Benson Mom, that is so true, our kids have made a great decision to go into the Navy and I am very proud of my son for making this choice, he will have so many opportunities most other kids won't. Again, I will say I am very proud and will continue to think positive. Thank you for this!!

So when I get bummer I think about all the kids form my sons class and before and see their are just flipping burgers, getting carts at Walmart, of just plain doing nothing!! I get so proud that My son choice for his life a better choice!! then I smile.

I suggest you go one day earlier if at all possible. Leaving on Wednesday instead of Thursday. You can never count on travel and flight cancellations even in March. If you have a Thursday flight and it is canceled you may not be able to get another on that get's you there on time. It happened a couple times to other families that I know and it was so sad. I know some just can't do that because of work but if if you can it is a good idea.

Thanks for the info diannep definitely looking into Hotels this week and checking flights...we are still not sure we want to fly or drive...but all the info sure does help. I just hope PIR gets here sooner than later...
Have a great Monday everyone!

nickie: Just a couple of comments to add to what ellen said... No, absolutely not too early to book hotel rooms and we advise you all to go ahead and do that. Some book up (especially those like Residence that have large suites for larger groups traveling up for PIR weekend).  They all have very liberal cancellation policies, usually up to day before arrival or day of arrival.

If you can book your flights on Southwest Airlines, you can book those any time you like (take advantage of their special rates!) since they have no change fee...just change in fare adjustment (which believe it or not, if you have to change, you may find your new flights to be cheaper than original ones, as I did when my sailor was up there).  Your first 2 bags also check for free.

They fly into Chicago-Midway (furthest airport from GL ... about an hour drive....but one that the sailors will fly out of, in addition to OHare, in case you are planning an airport visit with them on departure day).  Southwest also flies into Milwaukee WI which is about 45 minutes from GL, no traffic, cheaper car rental. Sailors at this time do not fly out from Milwaukee.  That may change in the future as I have heard that they now have a USO there.  But for now, they only fly from the Chicago airports.

When booking a hotel, ask for the Navy Graduation rate.  If you mention PIR, they may not know what you are talking about!  Some ladies have reported that they got a cheaper rate booking online in some cases, so check all options.  We happened to use our AAA discount when we stayed at Residence Inn back in early 2010.

Thanks ellen0502, guess we will be looking at Hotels this week.

nickie2013, Never too soon to book your hotel. Most hotels in the area have a very generous cancellation policy, and the earlier the better on reservations.
