~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good morning to all. Thanks for the info on the FAST class!! I am kinda happy my son got to go though that class. Free education for my son. He did tell me he learned alot. Hopefully now he can focus on the other parks of bootcamp. I will miss the Sunday phone calls that I have been getting for the past 2 weeks.

Thanks so much Craig and FTLW, it is rally awesome that they have that. I wonder, do they have anything like this to help them before they join to help them get a better ASVAB score or maybe while they are in DEP so it is done before they get to RTC so as not to delay their training?

Good morning everyone :)

Helloooo again Barbydahlzz! Glad your Sailor is doing well and looking forward to having you along!

BTW Folks...if ANYTHING like this happens or any other setback...please let us veterans know. You can do it privately. We can help, that is what we are here for! We do not want you to go through ANY of this alone! :-)

"These recruits are typically very motivated," Crisp said. "They have a strong desire to become Sailors and do very well. They are often selected for recruit leadership positions."

This is a great comment. I know that it can be distressing to hear that your recruit has gone to F.A.S.T. but the positive is that the Navy still sees something in this recruit that says they will make a good Sailor and so they further equip them.

Here is a video that has a short bit on F.A.S.T.:

This video (start at 8:24 minutes until the end) and it will explain about FAST for you.

BensonMOM - *big smile* about "don't know why they call it fast." The military LOVES acronyms...but it is ironic that a two week program is called "F.A.S.T.". :-)...especially since your sons was longer . Most likely because of the gap in PIR groups!

Welcome aboard your new one and I hope your son is doing well!

Barby & FTLW -

Thanks for the info about the gap in training.  I have never seen a gap of 1 month.  That is a huge gap.

F.A.S.T:
The Fundamental Applied Skills Training (FAST) program is for recruits with limited literacy or verbal skills. FAST focuses on two areas: verbal skills and literacy. These programs are designed to help recruits understand technical manuals and speak English as a second language. About 15 recruits are enrolled in FAST at any time during training, with the average duration in the program for two to four weeks. Of those placed in FAST, 98 percent complete boot camp.

"These recruits are typically very motivated," Crisp said. "They have a strong desire to become Sailors and do very well. They are often selected for recruit leadership positions."

We talk about F.A.S.T. briefly on my website.  They screen the recruits on their P-5 day:  (Look here)

I dont know why they call it a fast class though. The 2 week class took them 3 weeks to put him through. He spent 8 hours in class a day and the rest of his time folding his clothes and learning to shine his boots!! He couldnt wait to get started in bootcamp! He was board out of his mind!
