~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Getting closer, son ship 11 div 103 looking forward to meeting you all
Yeaa BrianH 104 is moving along nicely:) It seems that they are working very hard to do good:)10 days cant wait :
10 days and a wake-up, y'all! Haven't heard from my boy lately, but from what I gather here and on the FB pages, Div 104 seems to have melded into a pretty good team. Can't wait til March 1!
jen: You can ask on any of the "ship" groups on here about a specific phone provider/type of phone for overseas. But my "guess" is that most providers have a "plan" for the military. Hope you are able to get some info!
diannep - I was able to suspend her service while at bootcamp. If I did it on the internet, there was a $30 month fee & the contract would be extended by however long it was suspended. Going into the local facility, it was done with no charge and no contract extension.
I will definitely explore this in person at the local store. Just wasn't sure if there was a benefit to a specific provider or phone type if she were to go out of the country.
Will say that ATT offers a "military discount" which my son received.
jen: I would call your cell phone provider and discuss this with them. I have heard that there are special privileges for military....I know that some are even able to temporarily suspend service on their SR's phone while in bootcamp.
When you say that "she learned she could break the existing contract...", did someone tell her this at bootcamp and was it an RDC or another SR? Hope you can get your options by calling your provider.
Question about cellphones. SR has service on my account due to work discounts. She has another year on the contract on her phone. She has learned that an iPhone is a good option if she is to be stationed anywhere. I know this opens a complete other discussion regarding calling cards, etc. She also learned that due to her military status she could be able to break the existing contract without penalty and upgrade. Anyone have any experience regarding this?
this is in regards to A school.... the first thing my sailor bought was a NEW PHONE and a LAPTOP... then i think a week later he bought a tv and xbox and games.. ugh... but i think its up to the school command of what you can do and cant do as regards to having liberty and such.... but once they leave RTC its a little bit more freedom.... A LITTLE but they appreciate it soooooooooo much HAVE A GREAT NAVY DAY
Oh my gosh! Don't you love that countdown clock on this page? Tomorrow we will be in the single digits for our PIR! Can't wait to see it say 0 days!
