First of all, thanks Admins for finally approving my membership.

My son is ship 07 div 077, he left 1-2-12. I got "the box" last week and got the paperwork Friday letting me know his address and ship/division. I miss him so much!!!! I am an emotional mess. He has put me through a lot since graduation June 2010...he isn't a bad kid but can be pretty willful and stubborn. His biological father died last year, which set him back emotionally, and he had been meandering since graduation and blew through a sizable monetary gift from his grandparents. He and I went through a LOT of turmoil because I am just as stubborn and was determined to see him get on the right path. For a long time when I would mention the military he would get angry with me and scoff, despite the fact that every man in our family has served in the service. My father is a retired USAF Colonel and since my son did not his real father present in his life my dad really stepped up to the plate and helped raise him. So long story short, he came home one day last spring and said "Mom, I went and saw a navy recruiter." I was FLOORED. Then by June he had sworn in and was set to wait until December to leave for basic. For six months he really didn't do much except play video games but he was faithful to checking into his meetings and doing everything he had to do to keep his enlistment in place. For that, I was really proud of him.

And now, he is gone. I missed his call from the bus because my cell phone didn't ring at work (poor signal) and missed the call at night when he arrived because to my shame I was not prepared for it and we didn't get to the phone quick enough and he had hung up. He called this past Sunday and talked to his 12 year old sister and even though he knows I work weekends he was sad I was not here. He promised to call again next Sunday so I am going to leave work early to take his call. I refuse to miss it again. I need to hear his voice!

I am writing him faithfully. But boy oh boy do I miss him. I have had all sorts of weird anxiety symptoms crop up and I often get teary eyed and really emotional. I cleaned his room tonight and now I am a real basket case. My emotions are all over the place. I feel like a part of my heart is just...gone. Is this normal? Help! My heart is skipping beats and I am a bundle of nerves. I raised my son as a single mom until he was 5 years old and we are very close. He left home once before and moved in with a girlfriend and as much anxiety as that caused me this is somehow very, very different. He is doing he right thing, he is changing and I am extremely proud...so why the anxiety, why the sadness? :*-(

KayKay, Welcome to our group. Just one quick question, your son left 12/2? most of the recruits in this division arrived at boot the first weeks of January.

OMG I am sorry, my bad. He left 1-2-12. :( See, my brain is muddled.

ok...I was wondering what they had been doing with him for a month!!! LOL

LOL no no, I am just terribly preoccupied and it sure feels like he has been gone that long. :(

I know how you feel.  One moment I am fine and darn proud of my daughter, and the next moment I am bawling like a baby.  I have been cleaning up her room since she left.  My gosh, I sure hope the Navy will change her sloppy ways.  It is the hardest thing to let my first born go away, but I know in the end, it will be the best thing for her. Take Care.

Hi KayKay and welcome...don't mind Jackie...she's on here as much as I am...you did write 1-2-12!!  (sorry Jackie...just joshin ya)

I don't think I could have made it this long without this group.  Even just knowing that all the people in my PIR 3/2 Ship 9 Div 075 still haven't gotten a letter either and it's not just me....it helps.

kimmic...well, you do speak the truth...about the how wonderful this group is and to the fact that I am on here ALL THE TIME!
