I was just wondering what to expect after graduation.  I'll take my son to lunch and then I'm not sure what most recruits feel like doing.  Do they want to just hang out and relax in a hotel or do they like to go to a mall and feel a part of civilization again?

Hard to know.  Mine's a homebody usually, but he may have the opposite reaction after this.  I've seen several posts from other moms saying they just wanted to go back to the hotel and take a nap because graduation is actually very stressful for them, they're afraid they're going to "mess up".  Then the high emotion level takes a toll also, I imagine.

Most families go out to eat and hang out at Gurnee Mills Mall.  It is huge and there are plenty of spots to eat there.  Some take the train into Chicago too. Then I knew alot of recruits who just wanted to go to the hotel, get some sleep, update their facebook and text/talk to all their friends on the cellphones.

That will be my son. Loves to sleep! I'm sure he will want to update his friends too.

Mine will probably want to update his close Spec Ops friends who have already gone thru BC, and then eat and relax... but who knows how much this will change him... I read somewhere that he isnt allowed to be on a cell phone,,, etc... so isnt FB and texting discouraged?

Is that for SPECOPS...as far as not being on the cell phone? I haven't "heard" of that but then I don't have a SPECOP Sailor!

They an use their cell as far as I know (sjtina would be a good one to asl about SPECOP)...they just can not bring it back to RTC at night.

I'm also wondering if there are many recruits whose families can't make it to graduation and will be alone that day.  I told my son to invite a couple of friends to hang out with us if they're alone.  Any ideas on how to make sure everyone is taken care of?

Not yet, I wrote about this to my recruit last week, to see if there was anyone that he knew of that needed some letters or encouragement, but I haven't started receiving mail from my son yet..... I really don't know if they would be allowed to release the names of fellow recruits or not, or if it would get them in trouble.... I saw in the flyer they sent with the form letter that there are a couple places you can purchase things for graduating recruits..... just kind of waiting to hear from my son to see what the situation is in their division.

Is Friday the only day we will get to see them?
