OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Would one of you fine ladies or gentlemen with a recruit in division 113 or 114 please email the RTC to confirm your SRs ship number?

You seem to have two different ship numbers for them still, and your mail to them could/might/may be delayed getting to them if you have it wrong.

nicksmom - I hope he gets to call soon too!  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you...toes too!

Comment by nicksmom on February 4, 2014 at 1:51pm

well, that is probably what happened. i hope he gets to call soon, i miss him!

Comment by diannep on February 4, 2014 at 1:48pm

nicksmom:  Sometimes they have "watch" or an appt elsewhere on the base and miss the division calls.

Comment by doubleAA'smom on February 4, 2014 at 1:33pm

I dropped my phone in the toilet this morning.  It is now sitting in a bag of rice.  I think this is the one and only time I will hope that my SR does not call.  Lol!!

Comment by nicksmom on February 4, 2014 at 1:18pm

i still have not gotten a phone call. you would think the whole group would get to make a call home. but i guess not.

Comment by amareinpace (Ship 14, DIV 114) on February 4, 2014 at 1:06pm

Nicksmom, his form letter says Ship 13, and he didn't say anything about it changing when he called the other day. It is possible they've moved to Ship 14, though, since they wrote and sent the form letters.

Comment by nicksmom on February 4, 2014 at 12:42pm

amareinpace! same ship? his recruiter told me ship 14 but his form letter says ship 13 so, im just assuming that 13 is correct? have you heard from your husband yet?
