homemademom: Recommended hotels on this site other than Navy Lodge (book that in your SR's name!) are:
Residence Inn, Springhill Suites, Courtyard and Holiday Inn Express (Waukegan/Gurnee area)....all near Sarge's MeetandGreet (free to you all, includes dinner and info!). Call these hotels directly and ask for the Navy Grad discount (4-5 miles to RTC, shuttle will pick you up from these....you can reserve with Sarge or the hotel front desk with the local service....you can also sign up at Sarge's MeetandGreet for PIR shuttle service). Sorry, I know I'm throwing lots of info at you! Be sure to read through the PAGES info on the right of this page for other general info!
PacNMom: That is wonderful news! Congrats!

homemademom: It is usually more economical to rent a car than to use the "shuttles" (actually taxis operating as shuttles on PIR morning and from airports/hotels). But if you do not want to drive, yes, you can use Sarge's shuttle service from/to airport, to/from PIR, and around town (taxi rates for around town) 847 212 0246 (he holds the MeetandGreet for the Navy families the night before PIR also). I'm not sure of a hotel which is walking distance to RTC. Navy Lodge is close but not walking-friendly due to lack of sidewalks/lots of traffic. But the shuttle to/from PIR should work for you. I believe it is still $3/pp each way. If your sailor is flying out for A School, he/she can return to your hotel with you from PIR. Those moving over to GL A School, though, do this right after PIR and you pick them up later in the afternoon over there.
Glad you are here in this group!
Montana: He would be in FIT now to try and pass. Not a big deal though....if he passes by PIR, he will be back with his division. The extra tries are in the FIT division along with others struggling ..... please hang in there. This happens often, in every PIR group.....you will see sailors in the balcony at PIR....some if not all of them are ones who did BattleStations the night before PIR, too tired to march (but some manage too!). There are tons of people rooting and praying for him! He'll get there!
New to this... so glad to be able to find a little more information about PIR. My SR is in Div 128. I'm trying to figure out which hotel to book so that we don't have to rent a vehicle. Any advice?
Just got a letter from the CO's office saying my son is getting an award at PIR! I'm SO incredibly PROUD of him!!! He is focused and following his dream. I thought I was excited for PIR before, now it has ratcheted up exponentially!
