@Jormad - LOL - Great Post. I suspect that your husband is a little more anxious than he lets on. Boot Camp is not College, nor is it a Deployment.
Fact - its tougher to get into the military basic training than college in general. The days of a judge sentencing delinquents to military service are LONG gone. College simply requires a decent academic standing. Acceptance into military basic training means that you are sufficiently educated, are in sound physical condition and have managed to stay out of trouble.
Fact - More than couple very decent kids will not make it through basic training. Training is fraught with tiny little land mines that can bite the best of these kids in the butt and some of these land mines don't allow for second chances.
Anxiety is VERY understandable to me.
The emotional investment on the part of these recruits is not small. These kids that we have eighteen plus years invested into raising, have managed to overcome the Recruiting and MEPs hurdles placed in their path in a process that can take months. Having been declared eligible, many have waited many more months to get to Basic Training.
Now that they're at Basic Training, they're coupling that emotional investment with a fairly intense psychological and physical investment.
Any parent that gives a sh!& is understandably anxious and the kids who've made it to Boot Camp are generally products of give a sh!& parenting.
Jormad...LOL. Men! My husband complains that I make a big deal sometimes. He says its just like any other son going off to college. What? Am I wrong to say it is NOT the same!! At least if he were in college I could call him at any time. The only positive thing about boot camp vs. college is that I am pretty confident he is being taken care of and not getting into mischief. There is no time to. At college, he would not be taken care of and who knows what he would be doing LOL. ps. keep that phone with you at all times, even if it is to go to the bathroom!!!!! :)
I get angry with myself when I forget my phone even when I go on a short trip to the store!!! I wish I knew when they would be calling (at least a particular day). There is no rhyme or reason....Asking him what day he is on is on the top of my list aside form how he is feeling! Thanks Lala!
It is a great idea to make a list of questions to ask when they call. Along with your other questions you may want to ask them what week & day they are on for example week 1 day 3. It helps with knowing when different things will happen for them. Just be sure to keep the list near your phone and keep your phone with you ALL the time.
I saw on Navy recruitment facebook page that a bunch of people received calls and their recruits arrived at the beginning of this month. I envy them!! I plan to make a list today of what I want to ask him so if and when he does call the conversation will be productive. I am so afraid to miss a call.
HI mom of three, this is the right group for your PIR date. My daughter was in bootcamp 2010 as well. When was your girls PIR?
No, she was supposed to go and was the first to sign up but they let someone else go in her place because that AO had family living nearby that she hadn't seen in over a year. She is going on the next trip, I will PM you :-)
Lala he is with the Wildcats. Indes airman. Did she just get back from Nevada?
You are very welcome lilBig, I accepted your friend request and sent you the info as well as a 2nd email with PIR Tips. Don't worry I am sure you will find others from your division as soon as more people get their form letters :-)
