There you are Captain Fatso! Was waiting for you to chime in! Welcome...read your post on sending mail to your Recruit...mind if I post it here?
@ Jormad - Bootcamp is ALWAYS harder than the new sailors have it. In fact, there's probably a Navy Regulation that makes it true. Something about the age of wooden ships and iron men as I recall. :)
In any case, I don't believe that the notion of boot camp being harder in the past is always true. For example, during WW2, boot camp could be as short as six weeks.
To my way of thinking, boot camp should only be as hard as it has to be, where it needs to be. I think that's what the Navy strives for.
As far as getting the address from the recruiter some will give it to you and some are not as good about doing that. In most cases the letters don't get to them a lot sooner if you have the address earlier than the form letter. They don't get to write or receive letters until they are finished with processing days and in their ship/barracks. They have to train a person to handle the mail because it is a federal job and that takes a few days. It can be 2 weeks or a little longer before they receive any letters or send any out. I waited on the form letter and just wrote every day and held onto them until I had the address. When they were finally receiving mail she got 17 letters in one day lol. Either way works out fine and all the letters will find them.
FTLW stands for Fire team leaders wife, she is one of our veteran moms who helps out and she posts lots of info for all of you ;-)
Hello everyone I just got my letter from my SR his PIR date is 3/30/12 he is on Ship 11 Div101. I'm so happy to finally get this letter :), is there anyone else that has the same Ship No.?
Can someone please tell me what FTLW means? and is SR for Seaman Recruit or Sailor Recruit?
Hello, I am from Ohio and my Son is who is left for the Navy on Feb. 1st. We are a spilt family, but my ex is makeing sure I get all the info that is mailed over. We receive his box yesterday and my ex said it was smelly and did not see my son's check box like others are saying was sent back. Waiting still for the form letter so I know where to write my son at. My ex says we should not bother the reciter to get this and wait. What do you all think. I want to write to him so bad. I is killing me. I miss his vocie and seeing his funny comments on facebook. Thanks for letting me vent. Bye for now.
Thanks so much FTLW for sending me the link to join this page. I appreciate you :-)
My name is Lora, I am better known as Lala. I have been helping out on this site in mostly the PIR group pages for well over a year and a half. I have 2 Sailors, my daughter is an AO and her husband is an IT. They are based at different bases but are together in VA. I also have an 18yr old son is is planning to join the Navy this summer right after he graduates HS. This site was so helpful to me when my daughter was in bootcamp that I came bake to help others as well. Everyone on this site understands how you feel and what you are going through and they usually understand better than you family does lol. So if you need to ask questions, need advise or just need to brag or vent we are right here waiting to help you out. Welcome to this bootcamp experience, it will pass much quicker that you ever thought possible. For now write lots of encouraging letters, everyday if you can. They live for mail call :-) I hope you all have a wonderful day.
Hello everyone. I also have a son who is bootcamp now, and I am awaiting the arrival of the form letter. Fortunately, I am quite familiar with the Navy. Not only am I a retired disabled navy veteran myself, but my sister, and father were both retired Chiefs in the Navy as well. My goodness, bootcamp has changed quite a bit since we were in the service, but it is still quite exciting to see the video and it certainly brought back fond memories. I would like to say that you have a wonderful forum here. I don't know if my mother was nervous when I joined, but I think it's great that there is such support for moms now. You are doing a wonderful job providing information to some very nervous moms who unlike myself, aren't familiar with the military life. If I can assist in any way, please let me know.
Folks...I am going to invite you to start your Division Discusions up in the Discussion Forum. PLEASE Remember to stay on these main pages as that is where the "veteran" moms stay the most to answer questions and lend support. Your Discussions are for you to get to know those in "your" Div better while the main lages are for "your" whole TG. It's best not to go off and create a "Group" for each division because you can lose some of that "team" feeling.
Think of it this way...it kind of mirrors what your SR's are doing in BC...they are in Divisions but all the Divisions make up their Training Group.
Here is how to start a discussion:
How to add a Discussion - Go to the bottom left corner of the DF area (It's actually just above the comment box here.) and click "Add a Discussion".
Fill in the Title and any description you like.
For DIV discussion Titles a suggestion would be:
SHIP ##/ DIV ###
Simple as that! Then the other members from your div can reply and you can connect up even closer there.
Remember that you are ALL part of this TG though and to stay on the main pages to talk here too! Plus, we veteran moms mostly stay on the main pages of the groups. There are 7-8 PIR groups running at one time and so we do not get to the DF's as much. We do check them as often as we can...OPSEC rules apply there also.
