For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on February 9, 2012 at 3:55am: When writing letters...plain is best for the envelopes (though I saw a post by RTC FB that "...colored envelopes are all right. Period." I sent some with no problem...most of the envelopes ARE colored nowadays!)...no glitter, stickers, kisses, NO MUSICAL...it just draws attention to your SR...unless that's what you WANT to do!...but I don't think you do!

Write lots...write about ANYTHING...and when you run out of stuff to write...MAKE STUFF UP! LOL Just make sure to tell them it's fiction! The 03/02/2012 group is doing this!

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on February 9, 2012 at 3:45am: In case you are wondering about funds and such (since we were talking about checkbooks), for your SR's...they are issued a NEX (Navy Exchange) pre-paid debit card with $150.00 (last I heard ) on it for their necessities during BC. The funds are taken from their pay. This is the safest way to pay for things.

jormad - It's probably better that he sent it home...then he doesn't have to worry about keeping track of it...not a lot of storage space either. He would only really need a check if he were going to pay for his pictures that way. Most use their debit card. If he decided not to use his personal account and open a NavyFed that woulfd be why also.
