Oh wow.. I really hope they don't do that anymore LOL. I send my boyfriend a picture of myself with every letter I send him! hahahahahhaha
Someone posted a question in the general forum about sending pictures in the mail and it reminded me of an amusing story that you might enjoy..
I attended boot camp way back in the day of Antique Sailors when things were not quite politically correct. Anyway, the Company Commander for my division (now known as an RDC) announced a Beauty Queen contest. This basically consisted of all of us recruits getting pictures of our girl friends mailed to us by a certain date. Once the date arrived, the pictures we posted the pictures on the wall and voted on the prettiest girl. That girl would be named the division Queen.
Now here's the thing... EVERY recruit posted a picture. That means that EVERY recruit had a current girl friend.... NOT. If you knew these young guys as I did, you would know at least a third NEVER had a girl friend, much less a current one.
What's always tickled my phony bone about this is that I've imagined hundreds of boot camp divisions being cycled through where poor unsuspecting young ladies were being evaluated on their looks by a division of Navy recruits all because she was kind enough to give some pimply, yet to mature, goof ball of a kid a picture of herself in High School.
LALA- Love my ribbon and scarf btw :)
Too funny Captain :-)
FTLW- me too, 3 of them!!!
This group is finally getting a little more active. YAY, and just for the record several of you have a new reason to stalk the mail in a couple days :-D
eyeronics, thanks that is helpful to know.
I read that you can either meet the Sailor's at check-in at the airport and get a gate pass or if you miss them you can get them yourself by providing your sailor's flight information and letting them know that it's military related.
where do you get gate passes once we find out when they are leaving?
My son is in special ops, so I can not put up my number, but I will stay glued to the posts here, and on the pensacola discussion board. and the first person to find out can post.
Okay awesome. I was afraid that he might have a flight out late, causing me to miss my flight and perhaps having to stay until Sunday.
I will go ahead and make that discussion as well. I'm hoping not to spend $200 in taxi fares during this trip!! :D
Ok, well...that is very good news! He will be at the airport early in the morning...plenty of time for you to visit...at either airport...with him and give him his cell phone! You won't be able to go to the airport "with him" (they are bussed) but you certainly can find out what time they leave for the airport...and meet him there (Sarge handles that transportation too). You can meet up with him and get a gate pass, and then wait with him until he leaves it it works out for you.
And, please do start the discussion above for the airport rides. You would feel very safe/secure with Sarge (he has lots of info!)...or if any other families here, renting cars, can give you a lift. The ladies on this site are always so helpful, especially with ladies traveling alone like you!
