Yep, you definitely will find your sailor, carolyn! By the way, my older son and I decided to be "smart" when liberty was called after PIR. Notice "smart" in quotes as it didn't turn out that way. :-) As the throngs flew down the bleachers to get to their sailors (take cover during this...ha! There are some very anxious people who will run over anyone/anything to get to their sailors!)...we decided to "stand" in the now empty bleachers so he could see us and come to us. We waited...and waited...and waited....no sign of him...so we made our way through the people looking for him. Finally found him casually talking to other sailors. What the heck? I asked him if he even knew we were there. He said he wasn't sure since he looked straight ahead all during PIR. Sigh... Funny guy...so we had a few anxious moments, but all was well when we found him!
Ladies remember...get pictures quickly as you only have about 10 minutes in the hall before they will start clearing it.
Now, don't quote me on the "asking question" thing...since I can't find the post...besides, I woulda beeen to chicken anyways!
carolyn19 - Hey...this might be of some help:
**Note: These Sailors are in their Dress Whites as that is when these pics were taken. Yours will be in their Dress Blues.
When you first come into the Hall you will see Sailors on the floor standing next to Division markers. This is where your Division will be standing for PIR. You should sit in the stands in front of the marker. The markers are positioned so that when you sit in the stands your Division is a little bit to the right of you.
Okay...the pic above is right in front of the big garage door that opens to let your Sailors in. If you're sitting in the stands the doors are to the left of you. See the curve? They'll come in in order of their Divisions and march all the way to the other end and make a U-ee and march back and then line up in formation by division...so 097 will be the first closest to the door they came in and then on down the line. The 900 Div is in the middle I believe (they come in after...a space is left for them) I believe the 800 Divisions march in last…but don’t quote me on that!
Now, when I posted this once before Craig said you could ask the Sailors at the markers questions. I can't find the post....ugh! I told him I wish I had known that because it might have been fun!
F'rinstance..."What's the fastest land animal?"
Quick...what movie is that from?!
Lady Hamilton, sorry I asked the wrong question about where my SR will be after PIR. That is what everyone always referred to their loved ones as. I guess I will find out his rate when I finally get to talk to him face to face 3/30. Until then since the navy speak is very hard for this CM to keep straight he can be my FBS, OAOS or just my son.
Dianne- thanks, sounds like there is no easy way to get together but I have not heard of anyone yet who has not been able to find their sailor so I will be patient and know we will find each other eventually.
I'll take a stab at it...
Here is what I think Captain Fatso said:
"Well Lady, I was an Electricians Technician-Petty Officer Second Class (Surface Warfare) with an Identification Friend or Foe Navy Enlisted Classification aboard a Guided Missile Frigate as documented on my Dishcharge from Active Duty Service (that's the form number he gave)papers that I received upon my End of Active Obligated Service. When I left, the Officer on Deck announced my departure with two bells and signaled my crossing the Quarter Deck with a single bell. Fellow plankowners (A "plank owner" is an individual who was a member of the crew of a ship when that ship was placed in commission.) and F*&^ing New Guys alike casually manned the rails to see me off."
CaptainFatso, I haven't the slightest idea what you just said. :)
