I LOVE YOU ALL even more than i did before!!! thank you capt'n and thank you ILMS/F for sharing your post. Your support for your sailor is amazing. Our SR's deepest concern was the pressure if navy/military would try to dismiss their personal faith. What a blessing to hear from you all that a respect/need for God is a part of the naval career- what a comfort...

...and a way cool side note: met Ruth Bell Graham (daughter of Billy Graham) today at a conference. Before she began her presentation, she asked us to take a moment to pray for our military personel (tears)... classy lady with a big heart and an even larger story of God's redemption in her messed up past life. Let's continue in prayer for these world changers, a global force for good!

Ilovemysailorfiance,,, Your response to your fiance could not have been more perfect.  Finding that spirituality will not only get him through bootcamp, it will help him through his Navy career as a sailor and throughout his entire life. He is lucky to be marrying such a wonderful and supportive person. Getting that necklace will mean more to him than you can ever imagine.  Thank you for sharing!

Captainfatso.....that was so beautifully written.  For several reasons, I was deeply touched.  There is no way I could have peace here with out knowing that an All Mighty and Merciful God is watching over my son there.  Thank you for your message of comfort.

ILMSF - My wife and I dated for three years before marrying. I was a Sailor the whole time and she was in college. I was the one that went nutty religious on her and she was agnostic.

Being a Sailor, whether in boot camp or at sea, was at times lonely, boring and sometimes dangerous. God became very to me at a personal level and has since been a source of comfort and strength.

My wife? Well we've been married for twenty five years. Every night she turns her reading lamp on and these days, she dons some fairly looking goofy looking reading glasses. EVERY night, she reads her bible and about half of those nights I gently remove her glasses and turn off the light because she has fallen asleep.

My daughter? She's in the Navy now and the world can still be boring, lonely and dangerous. I hope that she finds the strength and comfort I did.

Your fiancé? I think I get it... He has a new interest and faith that you don't necessarily share. It may make you uneasy and understandably so. Still, I can't tell you he is wrong as I know he is right. There is a Creator and He deeply loves each of us.

I got another letter from my SR Wednesday. He wasn't a religious person when he went into bootcamp but he wrote me that he went to the Ash Wednesday service and said he liked it and he found God. He is going to be baptized soon. He says he is gonna be baptized as a Catholic. I don't really know how to feel about this because I'm not a religious person, I kind of dropped those beliefs a year ago. And the whole Catholic thing is a big deal since I grew up Methodist. But I love him and will support him in every decision he makes. I mailed him the cross necklace I used to wear when I was a Christian, told him to keep it with him and always remember that I love him and will support him with every decision he makes!
