OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

It seems Southwest always has the best deals. Sometimes lass than $150.00 round trip on their wanna get away specials. No checked bag fee and no change fee. If I were flying anywhere that is how I would go.

Comment by CaptainFatso on February 26, 2012 at 9:54pm: Torismom, I too am coming from California. I'm traveling on wednesday and returning on Saturday. I'm paying 270 each on Southwest. My kiddo passed here first PFA, so I'm fairly comfortable that she will do OK on the last. At this point in their training, that PFA is there biggest obstacle.

Comment by cathie on February 26, 2012 at 9:24pm: Torismom, Try going onto Southwest airlines and click on the blue "air" button at the top, check out where on the map they fly from in California and any surrounding areas around you and then click on buy tickets and try different airports. Look at the wanna get away tickets I found a sale for Thursday 3/29/12 out of Oakland airport for $170 to Chicago Midway. You may be able to keep trying different ones and find something better. Sometimes it is worth driving a little to get to a cheaper airport. Good luck! Cathie

Comment by diannep on February 26, 2012 at 8:49pm: TorisMom: Does Southwest fly from your airport to Chicago-Midway or Milwaukee? They have no change fee, and the first 2 bags ship for free. May be a bit cheaper to fly into Milwaukee (45 minute drive to GL...no traffic...straight interstate). So I would check them out too.

When my son was there, his PIR date did get changed. I had to pay the $150 change fee on American. But the good news was that the new dates for the flights were a bit cheaper, so it was like the change fee was $89 rather than $150.

Comment by zStratMom on February 26, 2012 at 7:35pm: TorisMom - check with your air carrier. Sometimes you can still change a non-refundable with a change fee. So, for example, one carrier I fly frequently has a $150 change fee. If you purchased for $400 and had to change, the max would be $550--still better than the $1009. You'd be gambling, but it's not a bad one. Also, call the carrier and ask if there's a discount --tell them this is for a military graduation. Sometimes ticket prices even drop, but you have to weigh availability of seats on the plane. At the end of the day, do what brings you the most comfort, then don't try to rethink the decision too much.

Comment by TorisMom on February 26, 2012 at 7:11pm: This whole plane ticket ordering thing makes me nervous and not just because I haven't traveled by plane in over 20 years. If I make reservations from california for refundable tickets it is 1,009.00 per person. If I make them non-refundable it's only 400.00 per person. But if her PIR date gets changed we are screwed. How dumb of me would it be to wait until the last minute to book my tickets when I find out for sure her date won't change?
