For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A quick note here: Last Names of Recruits/Sailors are not allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. While not quite as crazy as yours...when my DH was deployed the first time...he got stuck in Virginia for 6 weeks. Why? They wanted his team to go on to their destination WITHOUT their equipment...weapons. They refused, and it took that long to work it out. Considering that he is SFS...weapons were a major component.

No ammo, while guarding ship, anchored just off Cuba (during missile crisis) jokes, "i guess we were just supposed to club intruders over the head if they climbed aboard"... he mentioned a few choice words to those in authority (but never told his little girl what he "got" for opening his mouth... good times, good times? hah!

Comment by CaptainFatso on February 21, 2012 at 11:50pm: My ship was moored in Dubai shortly after Stethem was murdered. Someone who did the thinking, thought that we needed to increase pier security. So, we posted sentries on the pier with M14s and NO ammunition.

So there I sat with an M14, no ammo, and within sight of an Iranian and an Iraqi tanker that had been both hit with missiles. For four hours I got to contemplate how anyone intent on assaulting our ship was going to shoot me first. After my four hours were up, I was happy it was another guy who would get shot first.

I love my Navy, but sometimes they just do some REAL stupid stuff.

lala- love the pic! glad our SR is the third and not the 1st to fly the coop! (but can i say SR is "favorite" or better said one who "gets me" most)

BTW, Craig on here did a post on Hero Stethem on Veterans Day. God Bless him and his Family...two were SEALS and one was a civilian worker for the Navy.
