Our experiences today will help other other new moms and or family members in the future. So lets set a good example, so that our SRs too can be proud of us. Ha, Ha, Ha, LaLa! Love it!
I know I'm a mom of a Navy Sailor and I will do everything in my power to protect her. That includes learning the rules and knowing what is safe and not safe to post on a public website, say in front of other people or even on the phone. But there were days when she was in boot camp that I was contemplating this and I bet right now there some others who would join me lol
FIVE MOST DANGEROUS THINGS IN THE US NAVY
A Seaman saying, "I learned this in Boot Camp..."
A Petty Officer saying, "Trust me, sir..."
A Lieutenant JG saying, "Based on my experience..."
A Lieutenant saying, "I was just thinking..."
A Chief chuckling, "Watch this sh!t..."
OPSEC.... Just to an expand upon a point that FTLW makes.
To us. they're just young men and women honorably serving their country.. Good decent kids that are full of promise. To others, they are the enemy. Evil warriors that deserve to be publicly beheaded. They are targets. Their execution, an act of religious obedience.
In June of 1985, young Petty Officer by the name of Robert Stethem was returning home an assignment in Greece when his flight was hijacked. The hijackers identified him as a member of the US Military. Stethem was beaten, tortured and finally shot. His body was then dumped on the tarmac.
We had some new members join the Group over the weekend and I know we will get more...so here is the weekly OPSEC reminder! (A gentle one folks!)
I post this for the first month or so.
WELCOME to you all!
Safety for your SR (future Sailor) and you!
Sailors LAST names are not allowed anywhere on this site. If your last name is different from your sailors it is still not recommended. This site is publicly viewable.
FIRST names are allowed but I, and some of the other “veteran” moms, will most often advise you not to use them. So, let’s say you use your last name in your N4M name, post a picture of your SR...call him/her by their first name...it makes it very easy to match them up with you while in Boot Camp.
SR=Seaman Recruit...this is a good way to refer to your loved one while they are in BC.
Why does that matter? Your SR's are trying to get through BC with as little undue attention as possible. "Fly under the radar", so to speak. So...Less is best!
The MOST important reason for being discreet is OPSEC-OPerational SECurity. This is a way of life for us now. It will be for your Sailors career and for some of them, even more so, depending on their individual security clearance.

Thank You.
Today marks three weeks since our kids (those who left 1/30) have been gone. I'm better since I got those letters from her. Will gladly accept more though!!! I hope we'll be getting phone calls soon. I'm still lurking around here, just reading more than talking, I appreciate all of you other mothers and the support you give. I like knowing there are others out there who get how I feel, the missing the kids, as well as the pride in their great decision. Go Navy!!! Go Young Adults!!!!
Glad they are fixing your car...hope your kiddos are doing better!
Well...I use the search engine and I tyoe in whatever I am looking for and add "images" or "pictures" at the end. Like this
SNICKERS images.
Here is aa link to a Page with the EMOTICON post I have. It also talks about adding pics:
