Hope no one takes this the wrong way but it's reassuring to see others are struggling too - i thought I was starting to deal pretty well but the last couple of days have been hard. I hate this no contact thing - I need to know how my son is doing, is he eating ok, staying healthy, managing the physical aspects ok, ect. I know he is 18 but still this sucks. It has been my job for almost 19 years to make sure he is safe and this is so hard - I understand the whys of it all but it is tough on moms. I've been reading all things navy and have read of two corpsman death in the last two days (my son will be a corpsman) & realize this worry will last a lot longer then 8 weeks. Sigh! Thanks for listening - just needed to get it off my chest.

recievedhis first letter today, he is in the 800 seals bootcamp says it is really tough, punished alot in push up, jumpingjacks ect.. has had the flu, and had to keep going even to the point of passing out, and wakeing up to find himself being yelled at, and getting back up and trying again, he sounds a little down, hopefully things improve over time, or he just gets more use to it. I am sure he doesnt want to spend anymore time in bootcamp, so he just keeps going not to be set back.

My ex got a letter today from my Son that had his address on it.  WE still have not received his form letter.  Is this normall to get a letter before the form letter?  My son mentioned to his Dad that he is having a hard time, but he knows this is the path he wants to take so he is going to tough it out.  Wish I would hiear from him soon.  This just makes it harders.  He is in Ship 12 Division 100.

I will say this about the phones in A School...they are not allowed to have them during class time.  There was a big "snafu" when my son was at his A School.  He had already graduated and was on "hold" awaiting orders, but he said a bunch got in big trouble for having their phones on them during classtime.  Soooo....they can have them at A School....but can't have them during classes.

Comment by diannep on February 16, 2012 at 10:42pm

all5roc:  Most are allowed to have the cell phones.  She can probably take it to A school, but may have to lock it up for a while.  But they usually can have them.

For those who are very unhappy up there right now...keep the faith.  This is the very hard part of bootcamp.  As they start accomplishing things there, they will get more positive.  On your knees for your SRs and send nothing but encouragement in those letters!  They can do this.  Remind them that A School is NOT like bootcamp...more like a college environment.

jormad that is so good to know that there is so much available for kids. I love the Daddy Kisses, such a "sweet" idea :-)

Congrats on the letters and info calls. You take whatever you can get this early in the game :-)

I had a crazy long boring messed up day lol. The worst of it was I was using my laptop at the school I was subbing at during my planning time and closed it up to bring it home and stuck it in the case. When I got home and opened it up the screen was rotated sideways. Had no idea how that could happen or that it even could happen. I had to call a computer tech to figure how how to change it back. What would anyone "need" a computer to even do that? lol..... no idea

Alismz. You are very welcome. My son graduated three weeks ago. I am staying on this site to help the veteran moms. Let me know if I can answer any more questions

Alismz. Springhill suites is very nice. Right across
The street from sarges. Close to Walmart Starbucks and other stores and restaurants. Crossland is very basic. It was ok but I would not stay there again. If I ever have to go again I will stay at springhill suites. Oh and by the way if you like mushrooms you have to eat the mushroom skinny at potbellies. Awesome sandwich.

I'm so happy for all you moms hearing from your SR's already. I know mine will come! It is heartwarming to hear the sons thanking for all the support and the daughters telling of how they like BC. all5roc- sorry your daughter is not happy right now, I hope it gets better for her as time progressess.  We're getting there right? 42 days left and I might have a friend coming so I don't have to travel alone. I am so proud!! Of all our amazing kids!
