~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hello Ladies, Although not a mom, I am a proud dad with my son @ BC, i just got word he is Ship 9 Division 139.  Looking forward to going out in april and seeing him. I am already writing letters and going to pace myself sending them out so he has something to read every few days.

Congrats on all-around good news, ARD0605!

Good Morning All !

His dad got the letter and his girlfriend got the call. They both called to give me the good news.  By all accounts he is doing fine. He likes the food and is making friendships and the letters we are sending him are getting to him. This was a good weekend.

As far as shuttle service to PIR, Sarge picks up at most hotels and the area taxi/shuttle service does too, so most families should have that option.  Navy Lodge doesn't use the local shuttle service, but Sarge picks up from there.

You are very welcome!

Thank you Diannep :)

Stacy:  Your 13 yr old son could remain at the hotel and watch the LiveStream of the ceremony on his computer or your hotel may be streaming it also.  They do allow some onto RTC if they are younger children, elderly, or disabled....and allow them to watch PIR on the Livestream in the Chapel in that case.  However, they strongly encourage all to make other arrangements if possible, but if you are uncomfortable leaving your child at the hotel, please email Brian Walsh about this at RTC:

PIR ahuttle vs car:  We took the shuttle...It was very easy.  Ours left the hotel at 6:30 a.m. and arrived at 6:40 a.m.  No line at security, we were at PIR Hall by a few minutes after 7.  Would do it that same way all over again...no regrets getting there early. We signed up for the time when we checked into the hotel, but for those using Sarge for PIR shuttle service, you can contact him to sign up for a time or sign up at thisMeetandGreet, held the night before PIR for you all.

No problem picking the shuttle back up in the parking lot after PIR.

Also, the shuttles bypass the L O N G car line waiting to get into RTC....that is one big advantage!  The shuttles are actually taxis operating as shuttles for that morning.  Ramada has its own shuttle, but please read the reviews before booking a room there (TripAdvisor).  We have very mixed feedback on that hotel from PIR families.

For those who still want to drive, you will need to be in the long line early...or...here's a hint:  Stay to the left on Buckley (main drag that goes by RTC)...car line will be on your right.  Bypass RTC....turn around right past it and approach it from the other way.  It is an easy left turn into RTC then, no waiting!  We heard from a mom in the last PIR group who said that was the best advice she got and it worked great!

It is also possible to park off base, at the train station, which is right past RTC.  I believe it is about 1/4-1/2 mile walk then to the RTC gate.  Some do this if they are planning to take the train into Chicago right after PIR so there car is already there.

We have heard both pros and cons on both the shuttle and car, so it is up to you!  Just remember that you will need the gate pass if you want to drive on base, which you will be able to download 11 days before PIR on the RTC site.

Good question Christopher's Mom ~ im curious about that too.

Comment by GoBlue on February 23, 2014 at 5:34pm

StacyLHR I believe they have to stand watch at times, if he had this duty he may not have been able to call. My son only spent a few minutes on the phone cause the others were anxious to call also. He sounded upbeat, it sounds like the division is working well together as a team and doing what they have to. Hope you hear from him soon.
