For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Welcome, Stefanie! Yes, wait for the letter before making travel arrangements. Then, I would suggest that you try and make your reservations with Southwest Airlines into either Milwaukee WI (45 min to GL) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL) since they charge no change fee if your SR's PIR date is delayed for any reason, and also 2 bags check for free. Hope that is an option for you! Someone had also reported that Southwest offers a discount code to rent a car if you book with them also. Not sure if that was a promotion at the time or an all-the-time offer.

Hello my son is ship 14 Div 135. I have not received the letter for PIR date but was told by his recruiter it is April 11th. Should I wait till I get the letter before I make travel arrangements?

Ruth/Stacy: It at all possible, book your return on Sunday. Here's why. Although most of the sailors flying out will leave on Saturday, some may not leave until Sunday. They won't know until shortly before PIR though and even then, changes can happen. You don't want to miss any time with your sailor! You can visit at the airport with them too (meet them there).
Yes, they have to be back on RTC by around 8 or 9 pm Fri night (believe me, they will know the exact time and they know they CANNOT be late!). They are then bussed to the airports in the wee hours of the morning to wait for their flights. You can bring personal items for them and give those to them at the airports to put in their Navy-issued backpacks.

I had the same question Ruth. I found on the www.bootcamp.navy.mil site a schedule of PIR that comments that Liberty ends Friday evening between 7-9 pm and that those going to A school in Pensacola usually leave on Saturday.

I have a question on PIR. I am trying to make travel arrangements and do not know exactly how long i will get with my son after PIR. He is scheduled to go Pensacola, FL A school after. I heard i get 24 hours, but dies that start on Saturday? Does Anyone know.

I am still waiting on the form letter but my son arrived at RTC on February 11th so I am pretty sure his PIR will be on April 11th.
