OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Thanks Dana, its a catch 22 the longer u wait to book the more expensive everything gets but dont want to waste money either.. Its hard to find places to rent in San Antonio. Theres 5 of us going so we are looking to rent a vacation home bc hotels want to charge you for two rooms..

Shannon,

I can't remember how far into it,  but yes they can get weekend liberty at A school,  We went back to Chicago to see him, but each school has different rules I would  let him get settled before making plans so he can check on there rules..

Catmom 509..

I have a little bag with comfy for the room,  he asked for a hotel with Pool  &  hot tub,  he knows to bring his PT shorts to swim in,  is brother reminded him.  It was easier when his brother stayed at Great Lakes, I may do a little space bag to compact it good.  Everything is packed so he can dig threw it.. Thank you so much!!

Did div 136 get any calls this weekend?

When they get to A school are they allowed to get liberty on weekends? Where we could take him and keep him all night w us? Trying to book stuff and not having much luck on deals in Texas so thought about getting away from the san Antonio area a little to see if I could find something better..

Yeah, Dianne, that's what thought too, which is why it seems weird. I guess sometimes we can know more than they do about what is going to happen, but that's what he wrote in his letter. Guess I'll find out in about 12 days!!:-D

canalzone:  I just saw on your page that your sailor will be staying in GL for A School.  In that case, he should be moving over there on Friday after PIR, not Monday.

In the Family Guide on the RTC site, this is what it says:

Sailors transferring to Great Lakes "A" School

The Great Lakes A Schools are not located onboard Recruit Training Command.  Sailors attending A School in Great Lakes must check into their new command before they can go on liberty.  The check-in process can take up to 5 hours. Please ensure your sailor has your phone number so they can contact you once they have completed the check-in process.

canalzone:  Is he moving over to GL A School?  If so, they normally move over there after PIR, takes a few hours....they they have liberty with you through the weekend (daytime) and can return to their base each night with personal items.

If flying out, it is rare for them not to leave on Saturday, sometimes Sunday.  But if he is for sure not leaving until Monday, then I would take his personal items up there for PIR weekend just in case his flight is earlier than Monday.  Then follow CatMom's post below.  Whatever won't fit into his backpack, you can bring back home and mail to him once he arrives at his A School.
