Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

That's a great question on the ribbons and who is everyone buying them from. They look so easy to make if you are crafty. I was thinking of going to ac Moore and pulling a Martha Stewart myself.

Question for you all - there are too many choices on ribbons - how did you decide- single, double, or triple ribbon, what color, did you put their first name or last name on the ribbon?

ChristophersMom: No one won that trivia! That answer to the close of the base was no where. the exact date that is. they say they get their info from books. oh well, i tried too.

diannep: Thanks for the tip…I'll try to keep that in mind. I know i'm going to just give him a great big old bear hug, i won't be able to help my myself.
Sherry: I have to go get waterproof everything and i love the nautical themes too…My husband thinks i'm nuts..lol he says i'm going to dress up all up like a navy postcard…haha…but shopping now is taking my mind off of things and makes me think i'll be seeing him soon…so it's my therapy:) Happy shopping

Your sailors may still be in their dress blues. Two year ago GL didn't change until the last week in April, my son was 4/20 and still in blues.

LOL RuthB13, I will be right there with you. I'm an emotional wreck when it comes to being proud of my kids. I just bought my waterproof eyeliner this past weekend...Mascara is next on the list. I LOVE the timing of Nautical being a favorite fashion right now, there are anchors and Navy stuff in almost every store (at least in Texas). For tear purposes, I might just go for the Blue and let Scooter shine in his whites...at least one of us will hide the makeup spots lol
