~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Fishing Quilter, In digging through N4M's , I found the below posted by Diannep about Sarge. Hope it helps. My husband, myself and our SR's girlfriend will be driving up to GL so we will be in touch with Sarge in advance of our trip. On the side of the main page of N4M's is Meet and Greet information so watch that for updates to the location of the Meet and Greet for our bunch, my guess is it will be on the evening of April 11.
Anyway here is what I found on Sarge..
NLVSailorsMom: Sarge is a wonderful asset to the Navy community up there. He is retired military, in the area for 30 yrs. He is a godsend to the sailors at GL A School and their transportation needs. He gives discounts to Navy families attending PIR for their transportation needs for the whole weekend. If you use his service from the airport, he takes you to/from PIR for free. He is a wonderful wealth of info so I hope that all can make his MeetandGreet tonight (info above in discussion group and also to the right of this page). You won't regret it! He even has "short cuts" to RTC for those driving....and other helpful hints!. His number is 847 212 0246.
You can search Navy for Moms and type in "Who is Sarge" and get more information if you wish
It is so funny to read comments about the food. Some say it is terrible and some LOVE it. I guess it has a lot to do with what they are used to lol.
As for the hotels you can go ahead and book now. Most allow you to change or cancel your stay right up to the day you arrive with no fees at all. They will take your credit or debit card number but don't charge or put a hold for any amount until you check in.
The walk at PIR from parking to check-in building to the ceremony hall can be quite a walk for some and standing in line to check in can take time as well. They do have Sailors there with wheel chairs to help those who need it :)
Thankyou Fishing Quilter because of your information I just made my reservations at the Navy Lodge without a problem
Okay, this may sound silly, but I'm reading that several of the local hotels are already booking up for PIR in April. Yikes! Should I be concerned? Should I be booking now? I don't even know where to begin on this one ... I didn't get the form letter, daughter's BF got it, so I don't really even know what it says (other than her address and PIR date). We don't live in the same city, so it's a little tricky. I've just begun to understand the particulars on mail/letters (do's and don't's); it's getting overwhelming to figure out all this stuff for graduation. To make matters a little tougher, I have pretty serious arthritis in my knees, hips and ankles and I'm concerned about how much walking and standing is involved with going to PIR because that is stuff I won't be able to do easily. Any of you experienced moms have any advice for me?
I'm interested in knowing more about Sarge. Is this a person or a business?
Fishing Quilt and Mom3MPA My daughter is also Ship 03 Div 144. She has called twice - was so good to talk to her! So proud!
ok, I called the Springhill Inn and suites. The special price for PIR is $119.00 per night, free breakfast, resturant & bar on sight. You have to call the hotel directly to get the PIR rate at 866-313-5183.
The Navy Lodge is $66.00 per night, all rooms have a fridge and micro, no other amenities on sight. The lodge is only 2.5 miles from RTC. The Navy lodge will allow reservations in your SR's name if you tell them you are stying for the PIR. The Lodge does NOT have shuttle service to PIR, but I have heard that Sarge runs a shuttle service for a very low cost.
Both places are close to Flannagans where Sarge usually has a meet and greet session. Hope this helps some of you searching for places to stay. Of course both places have web pages with photos to help you decide. Looks like the Navy Lodge was recently remodeled as well.
Phone number for the Navy Lodge is 888-409-7829 or 847-689-1485.
Thanks, Betsy.
Abucking, if you click "Send a Message" on the left side of that person's page, that message would be private between you both.
