Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

The "I'm a Sailor" won't come for anyone in this group until the end of this week or the early middle of next week. Diannep will let you know when you can get the Battlestations date from her for the different divisions.

Comment by Jachay on April 1, 2013 at 11:55pm: I got to talk to my son (ship 12) tonight...(Not a regular call...he had to get some info his recruiter failed to get.) He said we should hear from our Sailor on either Friday evening or Saturday.

Comment by diannep on April 1, 2013 at 11:22pm: Correct, navymom. BattleStations is an overnight drill and then the I'm a Sailor calls come after 2pm Central time the next day. This group will not be starting their BattleStations until later in the week, and then finishing during PIR week. We cannot post the dates on here....we can only private message them. I have many of the dates if you all want to friend request me/private message me for them. Include your division number in the "message" on the friend request.

I will friend request you back with the info. Don't hit ACCEPT or the info goes away. If you need more info from me, read what I sent you, then hit ACCEPT and feel free to message me then with more questions.
