Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Make sure that your sailor ordered the PIR DVD for your mom to watch later. If not, you can order in the NEX after PIR!

Thanks for the answers Ladies! Mom is so excited to be coming along. Unfortunately, all 4 passes are taken but she knows that, and is totally fine with it. She'll be especially pleased to know we'll be close by and she won't have to do a lot of walking! Appreciate your help. Can't wait to get there and see my daughter's beautiful face!!

Proudmamma: Have you used all 4 guests spaces on your SR's list for PIR? Because if not, write to your SR and ask that she be added so she can go to PIR. They get to update their lists about 10 days to 2 weeks before PIR.

Proudmamma, There is not a place for them to stay on base during PIR, and since the Navy Lodge is only a hop skip and a jump from the RTC, I would have her wait there.
The Navy Lodge is so close, and is located in base housing, you can hear Taps played at evening colors. :)

Question ... My mother is coming to Great Lakes with me even though she doesn't have a pass to PIR (wants to see her granddaughter, if only for a little bit). Is there a place on base for family members to wait outside of the actual PIR or is it better to have her stay in the hotel and meet us after? We are staying at the Navy Lodge.

Momof3: Will be interesting to see exactly what they do. That is alot of laundry for them to do with average 88 SRs in each division!
