OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

@camcalmom, so glad you got to hear from your son! Congrats on his medal, that is so cool! I'm glad my son has someone in his division that is working as hard as he is!! Can't wait to be with them, soon!

Missed the phone call yesterday but got a very long voice mail.  Nick, Ship 3 Div 147, is doing well.  Had been to the Dr. for a cough.  On meds now and doing good.  He said he is a Section Leader.  Even got a medal to wear on his collar.  Yeaaaaa Nick.  Spoke about some feet issues with blisters.  He was able to wear his sneakers for 4 days while he healed and has all the proper band aids to keep on top of things.  He did say that this week was going to be hard core and didn't think he would be calling any time soon.   Still haven't gotten a letter but he said he was working on one and it was "a good one".  Looking forward to getting that.

OK here goes.Like some others this is my first time on Navy for Moms and my first time on a blog. My son has called last Sat and was very overwhelmed. Yesterday when he called he sounded much more confident. We were surprised last week and again this week to get a phone call. We are so proud of our son and what he has chosen to do with his life. We are just hoping that he makes it all the way through. Last week we weren't so sure. This week we are more confident. By the time we get to graduation we will have sold our house and will be preparing to move. Something our son was aware may happen but we have not told him the house sold. we dont want to put any more stress on him. We just didn't think would happen so fast. So on top of the stress from him being in boot camp, we have the stress of moving. Hopefully we will arrive in Chicago sane.Looking so forward to seeing him.

I have my blue candle burning bright with loving thoughts of our son tonight. As a matter of fact, it's burning for all of your loved ones as well :)

Hi ladies! Hope everybody got their calls yesterday from our sailors!
At first my son had a hard time keeping it together, but once he "collected" himself, we had a great conversation! I told him everything I was learning on from this website, and he told me all he was learning there. He told me, that for some reason (to which I didn't understand) his div is only allowed to write letters on Sunday, so if your wondering why there not writing as often, that's why! He stands watch, like everyone does, and tries his every day to not get any "hits."
He loves the friends he is making and has selected out the ones he knows he can learn from.
Apparently they have some big challenge ahead of this next week, so they will be practicing for that.
I'm so proud of him, as I'm sure all of you are of your loved ones!

Thank you mitch7790!  I should have joined long ago.  Better late than never.  My son is 24, so he is hopefully thinking the same thing about his decision to enlist. :)

I hope you all will forgive me.  This is my first time ever on a forum.  I am not even on Facebook!  I just realized that my comment is posted for all, not just the ship/division my son is in.  So let me start over.  *Ahem* Greetings to ALL Navy Moms & Parents!
