~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Angelina what ship is your brother in? My son also stayed in Great Lakes. He is on the USS North Carolina. He is a machinist mate and a firemans apprentice.

Angelina...we have had some tornadoes in some of our neighboring NC communities, but so far have been in the clear.  The watches and warnings go through tomorrow.  I am lucky that my sailor is in Florida and not under any weather advisories at the moment:)

Angelina... I'm jealous, lol. I have to work almost 14 hour shifts. Lol. And yes, My Sailor has def seen some nasty weather down there. Prayng everyone stays safe through it all. But yes, communication is much better than in boot camp. I can deal with the distance a little bit better... not much but a little. Lol.

Hello to Everyone. BrittBratt0820 my brother would be sooo jealous of your Sailor in MS. Even has been fishing. My Brother stayed in Great Lake. and cant leave or even put on civilian clothes yet. but it is nice that he has his phone so there is more communication.

Mitch Happy Birthday to Your Son!!!

And very important is anyone being affected by these horrible tornados?

My Spn is doing really good, A school hasn't started yet for him but he is on watch a lot. He is liking it there and finding he's way. I miss him but him having he's phone is good, and he was thankful I brought he's laptop to PIR so he can watch movies on it since there is no tv. But he is happy. :)

It has been an awesome week! With our Sailor Son having his phone back, we have been able to text everyday, and send short videos, and talk. A couple of other young sailors that stayed in Great Lakes, were in "INDOC" all week, now that it is done they are in "holding," until they ship out this next week. They ave no idea when that will happen...
I'm so thankful to have my son back, it's so good to hear him adjusting well, and preparing for his next adventure!
Happy birthday to those of you, and how nice it is that we get to move forward, happily!!

My son stayed in Great Lakes for A school. He classes up on Thursday. He is so ready to get started. It is so nice that he has his cell phone and he can text or call when he has a minute. I think we have texted everyday since we left on Sunday.

What I am calling a holding baracks is where he is waiting until he classes up.  He will be 23.  We met him at the airport last Friday night before he flew out to give him his cell phone, computer and a few pair of comfy underclothes.  I sent him a box this past week with a charger, a book and some cookies, but he hasn't been able to pick it up.  He says he can get it tomorrow.  He says that he has to finish his qualifications early this week, which I think involves some inspections and such before he can actually leave base.  I'm not at all clear in what is happening, so am learning as I go along..just like bootcamp:)

Sounds like our sailors are getting settled and keeping busy!   Mitch...what is a holding barracks? And happy birthday to your son!  Mine will be 22...yours? Has anyone sent them their civvies yet?  I put together a box of gifts (mainly treats) and a few of his favorite things (books, red sox cap and boxers) but haven't sent him clothes or his lap top yet.

Hi Lisa! My Sailor is in Meridian MS right now. He's Doing really good. He says that he's had a lot of freedom to explore. He just did some fishing over the weekend with some new friends... he hasn't classed up yet. Not sure when he will... but so far, he says he is enjoying it. That makes me feel a lot better knowing that he's okay. He did say it was hot down there and he has to get used to the bugs. Lol. I'm a city girl, so when I go visit him that'll be my biggest problem :)
