~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

It's easy to get addicted to. Especially the fellowship. I wish I had found it long before my son left, as well. But, I'm certainly glad I'm here now!!

I have been on this site for the better part of the day! Dont know why it didnt occur to me to look for info on Parents w kids in the Navy beforehand. Oh, wait....I asked Hubby to check stuff out! But he was sooooo stressed out. Our SR is his youngest, he took it hard. But now i know I have a huge source of info. (Much better than NavyDads!) Everywhere I turn I find a new nuggett of info. Love it!

Stepmonger46 my son is in the same ship/division.  I did not get a call either....waaaaa!  I saw on here alot of moms were getting calls so i was stalking the phone all day, and NOTHING.....BOOOOO!  Want to hear his voice so badly!   I will keep my fingers crossed that something may happen tonight. I am now either a stalkers of the mailman or stalker of the phone!

we flew Southwest into Milwaukee, rented a car, stayed at Navy Lodge, and I got to say, I'd go with those decisions again. Stepmom, I know it's REALLY hard right now! My son didn't get to call home until a week before PIR- if someone is goofing off in the group, or any number of other violations, they can all lose their chance to call, at least from what I understood. My son was there over Christmas, and that was the worst no-call ever! But, hold strong, 5 minutes after you see him march into the drill hall, all that stress is forgotten. Our son is in P'cola now and I text him every time I miss him- sometimes he even texts back :)  I truly hope you do get a call though! Oh, sending stamps will save him having to buy them, as will writing paper & such. But my son "splurged" on paper & envelopes with the official Navy logo- sparked some great conversations with my Ex-Drill Sargent mailman!

Hi All! Our kid is also in Shp 03 Div 154. We have rec both the box and the form letter. But NO phone call. My Husband is crushed. But from what I read, we may yet get a call. So I am not flipping out......YET. We did get a text that they were taking his phone away and Hubby was in touch with him until he got on the bus. He has been writing daily. Do we need to send stamps as well as phone cards? Envelopes? He was not very forthcoming with info....wish I found this site a Month ago!!

TJCsMom;  YAH!

We stayed at Residence and it was fine.  They have studios and 2 bdrm 2 bth suites.  Shuttle to PIR ($3/pp each way).  They are a little more pricey though.

Wherever you book, call the hotel directly and ask for the Navy Graduation rate.  We didn't know to do this when we went up, but used our AAA discount at Residence.

AndrewB/Mom:  We advise you all to rent a car if you can because it is cheaper usually than paying for taxis/shuttles, especially if your sailor will be staying in GL for A School, which would mean that you have the whole weekend (daytime liberty) with them.  Milwaukee (45 minutes to GL) has cheaper car rental and less traffic--usually cheaper airfare too.  More expensive to rent at the Chicago OHare (35-40 minutes to GL unless traffic is bad) and Chicago Midway (an hour to GL unless traffic is bad) airports.  You may want to check an off-site car rental place and see how much cheaper it is than the airport rental.  Enterprise will pick you up and take you back as part of their service.  Check out airfare on Southwest to either Chicago-Midway or Milwaukee too...no change fee if your SR is setback for any reason, and 2 bags check for free.

The hotels that we hear the most good things about are:

Navy Lodge (book in you SR's name)

Springhill Suites

Courtyard Inn

Residence Inn

But there are others in the area that are ok.  Navy Lodge would be your cheapest and closest to base.  Ramada (mixed reviews on that hotel) has its own MeetandGreet.  Sarge has a MeetandGreet and holds it close to the Springehill, Courtyard and Residence hotels.
