OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by AndrewB/Mom on April 15, 2013 at 7:46pm

Wow thanks for your story and support-first I have to find out if he passes wed- if he does not I have to cancel everything- if he passes the run than I will fly out to see him even for a couple hours

Hi all. My sailor is not in your division but will be running battle stations with your group. His original PIR was 3/29/13-Andrews mom I know exactly what you are going thru mine got held back 15 days but you know what he made it and will be a sailor really soon. You' ll make it thru and like Diane dep said they have up until last minute to pass. I was sitting at his PIR wondering if he was there or not- of course I found out he wasn't, but it was still an event I won't soon forget. Plus I got to see him for couple of hours. :)

AndrewBMom-I talked with my daughters recruiter today because I am fearful of her not PIRing because of a health issue.he assured me-they work as a team and team members do not leave others behind-they will encourage and push him until he succeeds-they will not let him fail!

Ellen0502 what should I do-should I still leave my plans to fly out-because then he would do battle stations thursday and how would I know if he passed? So upset and sad-

One more chance on Wed AndrewB/Mom, he knocked 30 seconds off of it in the last two days, he has a couple more days and is half way there already. Another prayer his way!

Comment by AndrewB/Mom on April 15, 2013 at 7:18pm
