~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Dianne??? Bandaids? The Navy doesn't supply them? Do they get a hit if they ask for one? Sheesh!

Chissybear, I would say that would be just fine and also a great idea.  I would try and put them on one sheet so that your envelope is not too bulky.

Chrissy - I did that. Some of the veteran moms told me it was perfectly fine. I did some with her return and some with mine. Stamps and calling cards too!

diannep: I'll digest all of this, thanks for the explanations!

Chissybear:  Every hotel is different in the graduation rate they offer.  One lady posted that she got the cheapest rate by booking online at her hotel.  So it is best to check out all options...internet price...and....calling the front desk to check their rates too.

2ndGenNavy:  Some do send mailing labels and some bandaids in their letters to their SRs.  Just don't make the envelopes thick or they have to open them in front of the RDCs, which none want to dol.  SO just a couple or few bandaids at at time...

wonder cat:  Being in Div 158, your SR is in the first two divisions (157-158) who will complete training the earliest.  So, yes, it is possible that they just finished processing days this past week.  They should be in training week #1 (there are 6 training weeks) by next week.  I believe that 157/158 should complete their training a week before PIR, but we will wait to see when their BattleStations (final test) date is.

As far as the week/day count reported to you and 2ndGenNavy by your SRs, that would be the bootcamp week/day count, not the training week/day count.  They are different.  Bootcamp week/day count includes processing days before and some "down" days after BattleStations at the end of bootcamp.  So if you want to figure when your SR becomes a sailor, focus on the training week/day count, not the bootcamp week/day count---they complete training by training week/day 6-5..

You are correct...Write your SRs and ask them to date their next letter, and add their training week/day count for that day.  They are on "Hold" in this count over the weekends and during holidays.

So....if they are 1-5 next Friday, they will be 2-1 on Monday.  Remember, not every division's day count will start on a Monday...their day 1 count can be any day, M-F.  Brother divisions will be on the same training schedule so their week/day counts are the same.

The only time a SR will not be allowed to leave you a message is during a "need security info" call.  These are supervised and they cannot chit chat (or a call where they tell you that they are asmoed (setback) for any reason).  Any personal call should allow them to leave a message, but not all do.  I would suggest that you answer all calls while your have someone in bootcamp...just in case!  I know that means you will talk to many solicitors that you have no desire to talk to, but it will allow you to not miss a call from your SR too....just get rid of those solicitors quickly!  :-)

Lala, the blanket you made is beautiful and enjoy the visit this weekend!

diannep, can you explain, if our SRs have PIR in 7 full weeks from now, might they still be in P-days and start Week 1 on Monday?.  On the links to the Pages (in box to the right, below Members of this group), the link "what ARE they doing in boot camp", maybe ours haven't started Week 1?  I know it takes a few days to fill up these divisions, but 2ndGenNavy said her SR postmark on the form letter was 3/5 (Div 161).  My daughter's (Div 158) postmark was 3/1.

I know the best way to figure out where she is in their training is to ask her to tell me what training day and the real date when she writes. Just wish I knew when Day 1 was for sure so we could all follow along.

Also, you say not to call back if I miss the "I'm still alive" call. Would our SRs likely leave a voice message or just hang up?  I live in the 847 area code, so if I get a call from a number I don't recognize, I might call it back (could be another call entirely).  If this happens, I just won't ask for her by name!

Chele, I sent 8 calling card codes with my first letter - felt so good to be able to send something that will be helpful since we can't help much any other way!

Hope all of you have a great day!
