OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I changed my name in case anyone is wondering. My SR's brother just called me at work to let me know Fed Ex just delivered the box! I gave him strict orders not to open it; he already admitted to wanting to snoop through his brother's phone! I still haven't washed the clothes he wore prior to the box clothes; is that weird?

Good Morning Ladies.  My son left South Carolina for GL on 2/26.  When they got to the airport, Chicago airport was closed.  He had to go back to the hotel and flew out the 27th.  His recruiter called me yesterday with his address.  Hope this means his PIR is 4/26.  I have not seen anything for divisions yet on this site.  How long will it take to get the divisions up and going on Navy Mom's?  So anxious to here from him.  No box, no letter yet. Thinking the box will come today.  The letter later this week.  Can't wait to see my sailor!!!!!

Good morning everyone, I hope you all are having a good week so far. I know how hard this is for so many of you. And as hard as it is to believe the boot camp time will pass pretty quickly. I was a mess when my daughter was there. I didn’t have much time to prepare as she was only in DEP one month and then she was gone. I was and am a worrier lol so I was always wondering what she was doing and how she was. But it all turned out great and it is so hard for me to believe it has been almost three years. I am still here helping others get through this experience and I love it. If you have any questions or concerns please just let us know and feel free to send me a friend request if you like. I am happy to help.

I always say the days drag by but the weeks pass quickly so, try to find something fun to do and stay busy. If you have little ones at home there are several things you can do to make this journey a little easier for the, Make a paper chain with a link for each day they have left in boot camp and let them remove one link each day. It will help them see that this is only temporary. Other have also put a quarter in a jar for every day left and each week allowed the child/children to use the money for an ice-cream cone or even for a special card to send to their recruit, gumballs or gummy bears in a jar work well too and they get a tiny little treat each day. So many things can make it a better experience for them.

5boys, I am so glad you found that site. All made by a Navy Mom, I know this because it is me that makes it all lol. Let me know if you have any questions at all.

So my Sr is Ship 02 Div 924. Anyone match that?

Comment by 5boys on March 5, 2013 at 11:21am

Just got my SR's address yesterday from the recruiter!!!! Yay!!!! The letters are in the mail! From the info. I am receiving, I'm quite sure now that his PIR is 4-26. :) Love that kiddo.

This group is up to 21 members...yah!  More should find this group as the form letters arrive.

You would be surprised, though, at how few with family members in bootcamp know about this site.  I didn't.  My son never told me and I never met his recruiter (he joined in a different city)--sometimes the recruiters give out N4Moms info.  I happened to google for help after he left and found it.  Thank goodness!  That was back in 2009!  Have been on here ever since...love helping on the PIR groups which is where I have been since my son went in.

So, please ask any questions you have.

Just some flight suggestions for you all.  Check out Southwest Airlines...they fly into Chicago-Midway (furthest airport from GL...about an hour or longer...but one that some of the sailors will fly from for A School in case you plan to meet them there to wait with them).  Also, Southwest flies into Milwaukee (only 45 minutes to GL, no traffic, no hassle, cheaper car rental, and flights are usually cheaper too).  Southwest charges no change fee (in case your sailor is asmoed (setback) for any reason...mine was and I had not booked on Southwest...so paid a change fee).  They also let you check 2 bags for free.  Someone had posted that if you book a car with Alamo through Southwest, it is cheaper too.  Just some hints!

Welcome Chissybear!  Divisions for this PIR group should be posted soon...but I have a feeling you are in the right place!

Good Morning All!

Thanks for the reply diannep! Chissybear, I did start doing exactly what you suggested, sharing with only those I knew from her discussions!  I also posted on her FaceBook page a message telling anyone that wanted the address could leave a message and I would get it to them.  April cannot get here fast enough!

Comment by diannep on March 5, 2013 at 12:11am

Probably so, Kim!  Stay here until you confirm this is your group...you will get lots of info here!

Welcome to you and to Chele and to the other new ladies on here!  Glad you found the group!
