OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Thank you diannep!  It does help knowing it is normal from someone who has "been there done that". lol

Congrats on your son and his pending graduation!  We thank him for his service!

I am one of the N4Moms veterans, by the way...here to help!  My son has now been honorably discharged and hopes to be finished with his Bachelors this May, courtesy of the GI Bill.  I have been helping on the PIR groups for over 4 years now and love it!  Welcome to Bootcamp!

Comment by diannep on March 25, 2014 at 9:24am

Navy__gf:  They have to "phase up" to be allowed off base.  That normally takes about 3 weeks or so...after that, they should be able to leave base most weekends (no overnights yet).  If their A School is long enough, they may phase up to have overnights off base---even weekend trips within the limited radius they have to stay in.  Your sailor will get all of this info during INDOC when he arrives on the A School base.

my6kids:  Yes, totally normal for many of them in the beginning to be homesick, stressed, and not like it!  Being yelled at most of the time, having every minute of your day structured, is not fun!  But this is the breaking down period for the SRs....to get them on the "same page" so they can work as a team.  It gets better as Bootcamp goes along and by about 2 weeks before they become sailors, they are excited about this!  So hang in there...if you get a "downer" letter, just know that by the time you received it, your SR probably was back "up" again.  It is an emotional rollercoaster!  For the families too!

Good Morning!

Just booked our hotel reservation and I am so excited! I also have my first letter ready to mail to him tomorrow! :)

Still have not heard from him since he arrived at BC but I am still holding onto "No news is good news"

Hey moms! Got a call from my SR tonight. They allowed him to call because of blood work. No biggie, he's medically fine. Anyway.. he talked to my husband I wasn't here. My hubby said he sounds really rattled and homesick.

I wasn't expecting him to be so upset.. discussed it with some other veteran moms and they said it is very normal.

Just wanted to prepare you guys for that first call.  Some moms said their kiddos completely broke down.

I guess the first few weeks are the hardest!  Especially since my son called me all the time about every little thing. lol
