Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

It's funny, my son only knew our home number - not his girl friend nor his best friend. He wrote them down last night when he was allowed to call home. I took his girl out to supper tonite b/c she missed his call - she was working. She cried, and that was hard...

Yes, colette: You can private message names. Last names are never allowed on N4Moms (other than private message)....against OPSEC. There are issues on FB because last names are exposed on there.
Yes, your SRs' "bosses" are sometimes on these pages. And guess what? They can even get into the "private groups" on FB. How? Because being cyberspace, no one really knows who they are letting into the groups! None of this is really an issue if you abide by the rules on both sites....which are, no names, no real specific info (such as how your SR feels about one of his/her RDCs if it is negative)....just ask yourself before you post something if your SR would be ok with you posting it on a public forum. If the answer is yes, then no problem. There hare been times when someone would post their SR's entire letter on here. Not a good idea. I'm sure that SR never thought his/her family member would post a personal letter.
We N4Moms veterans are always watching the PIR pages to try and ensure that too much info is not exposed. We will let you know if you have done that. But so glad that you all are looking out for each other too since we can't be on here all of the time!
LingsMama: If you want to find other ladies with SRs with you, use initials of the SR and hometowns. That is allowed on here.
Just remember, sadly, only about 10-12 percent of a PIR group is represented on N4Moms. So many don't know about this site or don't utilize it. It is sad because there are so many resources here.

nope, no worries! just thought of connecting with some of the moms :) didn't see it as jepordizing them, but re-reading that I get it. I've deleted my comment, hopefully in time w/o any consequences!
