OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Getting excited and looking to make reservations. Any suggestions? Anyone ever take the amtrak up there? I would love to and then just rent a car......Thx...

Virginia:  Did you try Residence Inn Waukegan?  4-5 miles from RTC...they have 2 bdrm 2 bth units with full kitchens, living room with sleeper sofa.  Pet friendly too!  Might be a little closer than the one you are in.  It is close to one of the more popular MeetandGreets (Sarges) which will be the night before PIR.

We stayed at this hotel and really enjoyed it.  They have PIR shuttle which worked great for us since we didn't want to drive to PIR.

Just received The Letter! Ship 12 Div 199. May 24th PIR. See you all there!

Just made my room reservations for PIR weekend!  Had to get further from RTC than I wanted because we are traveling w/my adult daughter and my MIL, so we wanted a 2 bedroom suite with kitchenette and living area to hang out with our sailor.  We're about 15 minutes from RTC, but since we're taking our car we'll deal.

Mailed my backlog of letters yesterday afternoon.  Sending another today.  Keep finding myself looking at the envelope.  It's nice just to see his handwriting and have the physical proof that he's still out there somewhere.

The whining paid off! I got the letter! May 24th ship 2 div 928! It would have been a long weekend for all in my house if I was miserable:)
