Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Just some info, when I received "the box" with my son's cell phone, I called Verizon wireless and they put a Military Suspend service on the phone, with no billing. Since it is only for 8 weeks, they didnt require any documentation to do this.Only require a copy of their orders when they will be gone for more than a year. Don't do it through the automated service, get a representative to talk to. Hope this helps.

Hi there,I am so excited and happy to be in this group! Does anyone have anyone with Ship14 and Div 197? That is where my son is. He goes to Grouton Ct for sub school after........Would love to find out if he will have time between or not. Guess that will be closer to graduation. Guess I will start looking at flights/hotels.......How exciting........Praying for all of them........Mary Anne

Patti: If possible, try and stay until Sunday...because although most fly out Saturday, occasionally it isn't until Sunday, so you would have more time with your sailor.
When time to book flights for everyone, consider booking on Southwest if that is available to you. They fly into Milwaukee (45 minutes to GL) and Chicago-Midway (hour or more to GL). Milwaukee is less traffic, cheaper car rental, but if your sailor will be flying out, it will be out of one of the Chicago airports (in case you visit them at the airport and wait until their plane leaves).
On Southwest, there is no change fee if you have to change your reservations (SRs can be setback for various reasons)....and 2 bags check for free
