OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Any suggestions on a nice place to take SR to eat after PIR?   In his letter I received today he had asked me to decide.  He also wants 7 things to "taste" again just to see if he like it still.  He said he thinks his taste buds have changed! LOL  Today is my last letter to receive before PIR 5/24!!!  Woohoo

maryanne:  BattleStations is 12 hours overnight.

Anna:  You can pick them up and pay for them by the NEX after PIR.

You have to purchase the PIR DVD separately ($29 I think) but you can do that there also.  It will be mailed to you in a few weeks.

Comment by maryanne on May 16, 2013 at 8:20pm

Anna,my son told me I could buy them when I got there. I sure hope he is right. He never said anything about the 21st. I will be bummed if that is the case.........Anyone know anything?

Comment by Anna on May 16, 2013 at 8:13pm
Another question about pictures. In my srs letter he said he ordered package a and said it had to be paid by the 21 and asked to send him a check but I don't think it will get there by the 21st so can I buy them when I go out there like after pir? Also are the DVDs included in that package or so I have to purchase separately and do I purchase the DVD there? Thanks!
