Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Not sure where to post this, so forgive me if I seem repetitious.
Just got the phone call, finally.. After 5 weeks of no communication. Grandson made it through Battle Stations Ship 13 Div 195. Can't wait to see him at PIR May 24th. Then on to Pensacola.for Aviation Electronics.

Ok...I just got a letter!! He said his last PFA was yesterday.. So am I to assume he passed since I have not received a call yet??? I am new to this and all this guessing is making me a nervous wreck...just asking if anyone knows if this is a good sign??? Thanks!

colette, Your SRs do pay for everything, uniforms, food, etc and as a sailor they will also pay for everything. Here comes the tricky part. :)
The Navy (and other military branches) give your SRs (sailors) an allowance for uniforms, food etc but I am not sure when they receive the initial uniform allowance while in BC, although I know they do.
It is given to them as an allowance instead of "pay" to offset/reimburse the costs incurred, and it is not taxed. They will get a food allowance once a month, and a clothing allowance once a year (for cleaning and replacement) as sailors.

Maryanne they pay for uniforms??? My son is going to want ribs, I know it ( that will work out great with a white uniform ;-)

The swimming test only has to be passed once, and most do that in the beginning of bootcamp. The PFA (run, pushups, situps) is taken 3 times, but the last time is the time that all must pass it, no matter what they did the first 2 times. Yes, this PIR group should be doing it about now.
