~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

A quick, friendly FYI to everyone. Yesterday I had the blessing of speaking to my SR for the second time! Yay! It was so nice to only have gone a week without a call! That's not the FYI though, lol. During the call, he thanked me for some Internet sports articles I sent him from espn.com but asked me not to send anymore. He was able to read them but not keep them. I printed them directly off the Internet and I'm being told that was probably the reason why, it had pictures and probably drew too much attention. I've read the best way to go is copy and paste it into a letter. Well, my SR is div 204, so those with SR's in that division, take caution! I know I will even more now!

think the envelope would be fine---maybe wrap the medal in a little bubble wrap or something to keep it from sliding inside the card you mentioned sending  (or maybe tape it inside the card?)  He will love the card, and love what's inside of it!

Thanks, Dianne. Should I just send it in an envelope or is he allowed to have a small package sent to him?

Hoping that all have wings on their feet during that PFA run!  Remember, there are actually 3 PFAs....no matter what they do on the first two, they have to pass the third/final one...and pass all parts (situps, pushups) too.  So the first two are really just practice for them to build up their strength and endurance!

Mike:  Sounds like the Ricky Crud is going around in his division!  Very common but most don't let it slow them down much.  The RDCs are good about working with those who are sick.  Hope he feels better soon!

Yes, he is allowed to have that medal....small and silver....must fit on his dogtags.

As far as sending it to him now....probably would be ok.  He will have to open it in front of the RDCs.  If he asked for it, he would have checked it out with the RDCs so I would go ahead and send it.

Yes all is well!!!! We got our call yesterday.  She was very emotional but said that she is doing good.  She said that she is in the front of the division and carrying a flag (if she doesn't mess up and get fired).  She didn't pass her run the first time. She said that she thinks she will pass it the next time.  There were so many questions I wanted to ask her and I got so caught up in the moment and forgot.  She couldn't call last week because she was sick. Made my day!

All is well in the world! We received a phone call a week ago Saturday, got a really long letter last Friday and another call yesterday evening! Like another mom has posted, he sounds like he has a cold and says a lot of them have one. Otherwise, he seems to be adjusting really well. Says it's not as tough as he thought it would be. Getting yelled at quite a bit, but more as a group rather than as individuals. Still seems very homesick, hopefully that will get easier for him. Question, he has asked for a St Christopher Medal, telling us he is allowed to have one. My question is, can I send that to him? Either in a card or letter or a very small package. Does anyone know it that would be allowed?

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend. It was crazy busy here and a little too cold for Spring. We had frost the last 3 days :( Like all of you I am counting down the days until my Sailor comes home for a visit. So excited to see her :-D I hope you all have a great week!

Got a call from my son last night, after he made contact with our pastor. He sounded great.  Other than not making the run the first go round, he is doing very well.  I am so proud of my first born and I can't wait to see him on the 24th of May.  Like most of you all I am clock watching.  My two younger sons are so proud of their big brother.  We have only received 1 letter from him, but we have been writing since the day we dropped him off at the recruiters.  All of the letters went to Ship 13, he said he gets about 4 to 5 letters per day.  I have all of my friends and family writing him and sending him words of encouragement daily.  It keeps him uplifted and motivated.

My fiancé called today too!!! He has a cold but otherwise sounds good. Said this past week was difficult but he managed to pass his swim test. It was a very emotional goodbye but it was wonderful hearing his voice.
