N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Finally got three letters today, he said mail got screwed up so that is why we got all 3 at once. He wrote a lot. Said since he doesn't get to talk much when he picks up a pen he just lets loose. I don't mind at all, he had us laughing and crying. He passed his swim test but missed his run by 40 secs. He said he's not worried because he feels himself getting stronger everyday. Said taps is the worst time, thats when he gets homesick, but he appreciates the letters, he says they are like gold. Keep writing to your SRs ladies. It's what keeps them going . He even thanked me for the Bible quotes on strength that I put on the bottom of the letter. He said that really got him thru week two.

I received a letter too today...my son is in div 199... Still no call but his letter was more upbeat than the first...He had all his wisdom teeth out and said it wasn't bad at all...He passed the swimming but missed the mile and a half by 2 minutes...he's positive he make it next time.....I just pray I get a call soon... 4 weeks and only 2 letters...ughhh!! I miss his voice terribly!!

Got our first letters today from my daughter (Div 202)!  I was not quite prepared for how happy it would make to to read how she is doing.  Our last contact was a phone call last Saturday and she was homesick and discouraged.

She also had some news... she was made Religious Petty Officer by her RDC - she didn't volunteer either, which made it extra special to her.  She has been reading her bible and praying that her homesickness will soon pass.

I know how much this means to her.  She said that their are 3 RDC's in her Division (202).  She (likes them mostly), but then she says that no one is really supposed to like their RDC's, so that is okay.

How about you all?  Anyone else get a letter today?  I hope so!

Ladies, be careful not to post any derogatory remarks on here about "personnel" with your SRs.  Remember, these are "public" sites!  Thanks!

For those that have sailors on the USS Marvin Shields -
I am Craig, the designer of the boot camp challenge coins. I am in the process of writing the story about Ship-13 and CM3 Marvin Shields for PIRGifts. I wanted to share this video of the presentation of the Medal of Honor by President Johnson to Mrs. Shields and their 2 1/2 year old daughter, Barbara. It's kind of moving. Look at video starting at 12:50. It's cool, but sad....

Got a call yesterday afternoon, total surprise. He said he had watch on Saturday when everyone else were making their phone calls, they let him make it up. He was so happy that he passed the swim test and that they earned their first flag, an academic flag cause they all passed their first test. He actually said time is flying by, can't believe they are Nearing the half way point. He was measured for his dress uniforms and was surprised he put two inches on across his shoulders, good ole push-ups ! They were so nice at work when I said who was on the call, they all were sure to answer the phones until my call was over.
