~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Dinky, I am so sorry about your dad. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Anna, after PIR Sailors who have A-school in different locations other than Great Lakes will be able to leave the base with their families for the rest of the day. If they have A-school in Great Lakes they will have a few minutes with their families and then they move everything to the A-school base across the base. That takes about 4 or 5 hours and then they call you to pick them up to spend the rest of the day with them. Then they can be picked up on Saturday and Sunday morning and you get to spend those days with them as well. there is a chance they could have watch for a few hours but most will not. If A-school is somewhere else you can in most cases meet them at the airport on Sat morning and spend some extra time with them there. And there is a small chance that their flight may not leave until Sunday and you would get them for the whole day on Saturday.

Congrats on the letter Catie :)

SO HAPPY ... I received a letter from my son today ... Ship 14 Div 197!!   He said it is AWESOME ... really?? BC = AWESOME? He knew this is what he wanted to do and he trained for months prior to leaving.  Although I cried it lifted my spirits so much.  I knew how much I loved my children but today I realized just how much they love me!

So I'm sitting at airport waiting for a flight to England because my dad is dying. Thanks to N4M I had a talk with my SR before he went to BC about whether he'd want to know if something like this happened. He said no, so that's one thing less to worry about at this difficult time. It helped that we received his first letter just before I left home and I know he's doing fine ( apart from the blisters), and that BC is all about knowing when to stand still and keep your mouth shut!

Correction on the one form letter:  If your SR requests a second form letter, he/she can send that to a 2nd family member.  But it has to be requested/sent by your SR.

collette, I know!!  I couldn't believe my friend did that!!  I specifically said NO PACKAGES UNTIL AFTER BC!! :)  She sent me a fb mess and told me like 3 days later....I was like nooooooo!!! lol uugghh my kid will not be happy if it affects her negatively!!

Mike:  He may have had little time to write something personal.  They are pretty "hassled" during the early days there!   But I wouldn't count him out as a "letter writer" yet.  My son told me before he left for bootcamp that he would call when allowed, but didn't want to write (forget writing unless it is texting/emailing with this generation!).  Well......I received 5 letters from him!  My "letter day" was Thursdays.  They can usually only mail out on Mondays, at least in the beginning, so soon, you will know what day your letters will come.  Keep the faith that you will get letters from him!

VeryProudMom:  She has to stay at RTC that night....even if they don't leave until Sunday, she has to be back each night.

I received the form letter today. He's on Ship 3, Div. 202. Seems we all got our letters today from that Div. today lol. Time to send the ton of letters I have written and start the travel plans.
