N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good morning all.  I am new to the site and have been checking in everyday reading all of your posts, gathering information. My son arrived to boot camp on 4/1 and we received our first phone call at 3:00am (Hi I'm here). Unfortunately I was at work while my husband was home yesterday 4/10 and received a phone call from our son needing bank information.  It was a quick conversation telling us all is going well so far.  He did not give him any specifics like the Ship and Division#s.  I'm hoping to receive a letter soon with the information.  Is anyone else waiting for their letter?

For those who have kids at home missing their mom/dad/sibling etc this can be really hard for them to understand. Especially the younger ones. There are many things you can do with them that would help them understand how much longer it is until graduation. You can make a paper chain together with a link for each day remaining and let them remove a link each day so they can actually see PIR getting closer and closer. You could also put a quarter in a jar for each day and let them remove one quarter per day and at the end of each week use the quarters for a special treat like an ice cream cone or something they love. You could also use marbles in a jar for the same purpose. Anything that helps your little ones understand how much longer until that big day will help :)

VeryProudMomofMorgan:  She will have PIR Day with you and possibly Saturday.  Since this is a holiday weekend, they all may not be able to fly out on Saturday--some may have to go on Sunday.  In that case, she will have Liberty on Saturday as well.  She won't know her flights until PIR week.  We ask that you all try to stay at least until Sunday night, or even Monday if possible to allow for the possibility of them staying longer in GL.  More time with your new sailor!

LingsMama:  As long as your friend sent some very good candy, the RDCs may be happy as they will enjoy it!  :-)

Good Morning All!

We have posted your Division Discussions up above. Please use them to get to know each other even better on a "Divisional" basis...BUT remember that you all have the same PIR date and many of you will be attending the same Meet and Greets...so please continue to post on the Main Wall here...you all have developed such a nice group!

Also, please continue to post your questions for us "veteran moms" on the Main Wall here. We have 7-8 active PIR groups going at one time..that's 70-80 Divisions! We try to get to the Division Discussions but with that many it is difficult! We don't want to miss any questions as ALL are important...no dumb ones...for many of you this is your first servicemember and we want to be there to help and lend support.

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC apply to the Discussion Forum area as well. The Division Discussions are viewable to all...just like the Main Wall here.

Please do not start new Division Discussions.

Discussion Forum Area

This is the place to start a Discussion about a topic and for your Division Discussions.

The Discussion Forum area is set to show titles only and is set at ten titles at a time for now. (This can be adjusted by the group creator or an administrator)

It is also set to show the "latest activity"(there are other settings). So whatever has just had a reply added to it will "bump" that Discussion to the top. The discussion will stay up there at the top because it has had "activity"…until the next Discussion has activity. If there are over ten discussions, whatever is at the bottom will disappear from view…but not from the Discussion Forum. So, if you want to see more, click "view all" at the bottom right hand corner of the discussion forum area. It is right up there above the Blue Comment Wall bar.

To "bump" up a discussion to the first spot of the DF area when you don't really want to add a reply...in other words someone is looking for it...just type whatever you want in the reply box and click "add reply". I just type one letter or even a period and add the reply.

When you view a DF by clicking on the title, the first post ever made will be the first one on the first page. To get to the most current reply, click “Last Reply” directly underneath that particular Discussion.

~You will also notice that in the top right corner in any post that you do you will see an "x". This is so you may delete your post if you need too. You will also see the “x” on any post you make anywhere else on the site.

Comment by VeryProudMomOfMorgan on April 10, 2013 at 11:21pm

anna we received our first letter today and have received two phone calls. One the night she arrived in Great Lakes and the second one was this past Monday. It was 2 minutes long. I was unfortunately at work and missed talking to her but my husband was home and got to talk. She told him that if her unit continues to do well they will get phone privledges again on Sunday. I would think you should be receiving your letter tomorrow or Friday.

ellen0502 thank you! I will tell everyone to send cards then. We actually celebrated her b-day at the going away party we had for her because we knew we wouldnt be able to celebrate it on the actual day.

Another question, our daughter will be going to A school in Pensacola, does that mean she has to go directly from graduation or will she gets a few days to have some family time before leaving?
