~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

morgansmom: I agree with ellen on sending cards. She NEEDS to hear from home on her birthday. Plain white envelopes/cards are fine, but if you are nervous about that, why not print something cute out on a sheet of paper, etc and send it as a letter? It is your words that will mean so much to her! And like ellen said, CELEBRATE big time after PIR!
morgansmom, It is true. The RDCs will know it is her birthday, and as long as it slides under the door so to speak, it will be no big deal.
You can send her a birthday card, not a problem. A birthday card that plays music, has glitter or confetti a big problem. She can't have much more from home while in BC, but you could have a birthday party for her at your hotel PIR weekend, cake and all. Just remember she can't take anything back to the RTC side (she can have it at the airport), and if she is staying in GL she can take it back with her Friday night.
Good evening. Our daughter's birthday is April 26 so she will be turning 22 while in basic training and we have been told to not send her anything in regards to her brithday. We were told it will draw attention to her and that wouldnt be a good thing. Is that true?
Nope! All in this PIR group will graduate on 05/24, unless an individual is held back for any reason.
LingsMama: My son was up there over Christmas 2009. Someone (we still have no clue who) sent him a Christmas care pkg. He was "grilled" by the RDCs when it came. It was from TX (probably where the vendor was) and he told them he knew no one in TX. After they finally were convinced that he truly didn't know anything about this, they took it from him...it was full of Christmas goodies and he saw them eating them later! HA! Each RDC handles it differently, so not sure what will happen, but it is done in "fun" so it won't be bad. Most likely she will have to open it and just will have it taken away.
My son is in ship 12 Div 200 has anything with the graduation date changed?
Hotel is booked, now all that's left are the airline tickets!!!
LingsMama, Well...They may do several things, take it away from her and make the rest of the division do IT while the RDCs enjoy some candy and cookies. She may have to eat them all, while the other do IT, she may have to eat them all and then do IT. There are so many options for the RDCs on this one. :)
I guarantee it wont be bad though, she may even laugh it off as well as the others. I am sure she will make sure to tell you DO NOT SEND ME ANYTHING in her letter after she receives it.
Don't worry it will be fine, I promise.
Maryanne, If division 204 is a push division, 203 their brother division will also be a push since they train together.
Lingsmama, that is sweet you are waiting. Please let me know.....I will be watching the mail again tommorow.....Motherof3sons,thanks for the info......I had no idea, this military language is a whole new world to me........
Maryanne, I found out through this group. From my understanding Division 203 & 204 are push divisions. My son arrived 2 weeks ago, but apparently he was put on hold until more recruits arrived. They will go through boot camp at an accelerated pace in order to graduate by May 24th.
diannep, i'm nervous my daughter was sent a package even though i told everyone NOT YET lol do you know what will happen? i read on one site they will let her have it, but will time her on eatting candy, cookies etc....uuugghh lol I'm hoping they just return it :)
