N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Catie I had to look it up it stands for Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS). I get overwhelmed with the abbreviations here;) it keeps you on your toes! Like talking to a teen with all their new phrases, lol

Sara: My son is also going to Groton CT

Comment by Catie on April 9, 2013 at 5:26am

maryanne:  The graduation gift is totally up to you.  Some take their sailors shopping after PIR for what they want (but they can't take anything back to RTC...will have to mail to them at A School...or...hand off at the airport).  If staying at A School in GL, they can take things back to that base once they have checked in.  Maybe ask your SR if there is something special they want?

Comment by diannep on April 8, 2013 at 11:24pm

Welcome Sara!  Yes, if you can do the 3 nights, it would ensure you won't miss time with your sailor in the event he doesn't fly out until Sunday.  Probably will fly out on Sat, but you never know.  Being a holiday weekend, things could change.

Phoebe:  Sending paper/envelopes/stamps to you SR is allowed. I included an extra sheet of paper/stamped envelope to my son in a letter to him and he didn't use it...used their Navy stationery and said he had stamps.  If your SR doesn't need it, they can pass it out to someone else there.

Hi all! I'm new to this group, my Husband is Ship 14 DIV 197 :) We will be headed to Groton, CT after BC! Is anyone else headed there? And is it correct that I should make hotel reservations for Thursday, Friday and Saturday?

Comment by ColleenE'smom on April 8, 2013 at 10:13pm
Thanks for letting me know! I wont wait up all night now;) so happy you got a call!
Comment by srwife928 on April 8, 2013 at 10:06pm
He said they had received the wrong papers for DEERS and he was allowed to call so I could fax the right documents. But they let him have extra time to talk so that was a plus. He said he might be able to call this weekend, but in regard to DEERS again because they hasn't given him the fax # yet. Hopefully you all get phone calls very soon, it's so uplifting!
