N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

...to add to the post below, I would think that if the rating is available to them, they would then be assigned that during bootcamp and would head to that A School after bootcamp.

Also, sometimes when it is time to re-enlist, they may find that the rating they are in is full now.  In order to stay in, they have to choose another available rating and go to school for that.  I know this happened to a female sailor who had the same rating for 8 yrs, but it was full when she went to re enlist for the 2nd time.  Had to choose another rating and complete school for that.

IowasGirlsMom:  Not sure of the exact "mechanics" of it.  My "guess" is that when she meets with the classifier, they will tell her if that rating is still full or not.  But again, not totally sure.  Maybe FTLW, ellen, Lala, or Betsy would know more about it.  Craig may drop in here and he may know about it as well!

diannep - When can a job be changed? I am curious because my daughter wanted to do something in the Medical type field but she was told there were no job openings so they went over other jobs and picked Master at Arms. So that is what is on her contract. She is a Certified Nurse Aide and worked that job two years while taking pre-nursing courses. She took Healthcare Provider CPR/AED, First AId and Advanced Life Saver (Life guarding) from the American Red Cross through the local hospital and Swimming Pool. So I was just curious how long it takes to change it? After A School? or is she on a waiting list to be put in a Medical program? How does that work?

Acecase:  They meet with a classifier during bootcamp to discuss their "job" in the Navy.  At that time, they should know where they are going to A School....unless they arrived at bootcamp with a "contract" for a specific A School.  Do you know what "job" (rating) your SR went in with?  Occasionally during bootcamp, the rating they selected prior to bootcamp is now full and they must choose something else.  Your SR will have much more info after this meeting.

Looking for some other moms  with kids in Div 929...can't imagine what my daughter is doing there. Guess I will find out when I get a letter from her!

For the mom's and families who didn't get calls today, don't be disappointed! My son PIR'd on 9/24/12 and I only received one call around week 3/4. I am not planning on hearing from my daughter until around the same time. A lot of the drill instructors do not allow our kids to call home any earlier because they feel like it disrupts their training. Stay strong...know they are being well taken care of...in the Navy "No news is good news"!

Hi to everyone... I got a phone call today but unfortunately did not get to the phone in time.  At least my son left me a message and I was able to hear his voice.  Does anyone know when we will hear where they will be attending school after boot camp?

Comment by Momof2NavyFemales on April 13, 2013 at 4:44pm

Congrats to those who got phone calls today! That is so exciting!

Comment by Julie73 on April 13, 2013 at 4:31pm
Thank you for the encouragement. Our boys may be in the same division since we've both not received letter yet.
