Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

ok Moms... my son left 4/4 from PA and arrived very early 4/5 ... is there any one else out there with s/d in ship 13? that is the only info. i have from recrutier at this point. Got box this last week but no form letter yet.... lets all keep your fingers crossed for me that maybe today that will come!!! I see below that you mentioned that you got a phone call this morning... where is your s/d? does that mean just for their div? i know each has to earn them???? THanks for any help as I really appreicate it:)
I got a phone call this morning too! Was so not expecting one so soon. It was so good to hear her voice. Love getting and receiving hugs through the phone. Off to the post office to mail back the retainer.
I GOT A PHONE CALL this morning!!!! Not even 2 weeks in!! He is glad processing is over and training has begun... he said getting out of those sweats was a great morale booster... Got in trouble ONCE for smiling--he didn't even know he was--haha... but I could tell he was smiling while talking to me!! He said his brother divison 206 is also in their quarters---
momthatlovesherson-did you get a call today? my son said they all got ready and were told "you are making your first call today" hang in there sweetie, it will happen.
Our family will be staying further away at a Marriott in Lincolnshire(?) as my sis works for Marriott and got us a room for $39 a night, opposed to the ones in Waukegan for $89 with her discount...
We are flying in the 30th and leaving the 3rd.
My son said there is a slight possibility he can come home for a week, following BC and work in the recruiting office. He has to pay his way to SC when he is done... it depends on the timing of NUKE school.
Hi Julie73, let me encourage you, because on another group, another mom just encouraged me. She said her letter took about 13 days, so I guess we're not in that much of an unusual situation. But it is hard to wait, isn't it? I think I got the box on this past Tue. as well.
Hi ladies,
OK, I need some encouragement. I have not received my form letter yet. My son went to boot camp on 4/2/13. I have been thinking that the letter would coming the past 2 days. I so hope that it comes today! I have gone ahead and booked a hotel. I hope his PIR is 5/31/13!
The excitement of booking rooms and flights have kept me busy and happy :) Like you Jana, I am getting ready to send off some mail to my boy..one very special piece from my preschool class..a "thumbprint" card with all of my little friends with their thumbprint made into different things such as a kitty, monkey, owl, flower, penquin, etc. and it says, "Thumb" Body Misses You! I warned him in advance that a lot of his mail would be in crayon (teehee) Have a lovely day my Navy Family!!
Good morning everyone!
I have a quick question is anyone is on that might have a clue. The zip+4 number that my SR listed on his address is different from the Navy website's zip+4 for his address. Which one should I give out? Does it even matter?
IowaGirlsMom: Another lady posted that same thing about the hotels in a previous group! Said she found it cheaper online than Grad Rate. So worth it for all to check this out. Yet, someone else posted in the group ahead of you all that he booked without Grad Rate because he didn't know about it, and ended up saving over $200 (several nights) when he called back to get Grad Rate. So check all options!
Does booking.com charge a fee if you have to cancel any of your arrangements? I ask that because I know some of the other discount groups do. A lady in a previous PIR group was desperately looking for someone to take her hotel room, booked through something like Expedia or Priceline, because she either she couldn't get to PIR or her SR was separated.....she said she was going to have to pay something if she didn't find someone else to take the room.
So, just make sure that you all check that all out. If a SR does not pass their final PFA before their PIR, they will not be there, nor will they get another one--they will stay in FIT until they pass their PFA (they keep getting chances as long as they are improving), then do BattleStations (their final test), then head straight to A School, no PIR. That happens in most all PIR groups to a few of them. So, just make sure when you book your hotel no matter how you do it that you will not be penalized if you have to cancel. Booking directly with the hotel usually means no penalty if you cancel, usually up until day before or of arrival.
Morning from PA too made reservations at the Ramada. I wanted to have shuttle service available just in case. Good price for our budget. Booked till Sunday our son as A school at GL Off to the post office to mail letters The Journey Continues
