N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Christina'sMom:  Glad you got the room!  The hotels with suites are filling up fast...my guess being that school most likely will be out then and many will be heading to the water park close by---of course, this is in addition to all of the families up there for Navy Graduation.  So.....everyone needs to go ahead and book your hotels now.  No penalty if you change/cancel in most cases.

Good Morning All!

I think you can walk back out to the mini museum like area that is in the Visitors Center (The USS Yorktown) before the ceremony...but don't quote me on that. I'll have to see if we can find out from RTC. I zoomed through as I was anxious to get a seat and didn't even think to ask if we could go back out.

When you enter the Quarterdeck of the VC they called out about photography (it can start once you step inside the VC and in the PIR Hall but NO outdoor photography. They are VERY serious about it too!) Then you walk through to the end of it and the museum like area is along the way. The Security check point was at the end and then once you pass that you enter the Drill Hall.

There was also a kiosk at each end of the PIR hall (Midway Ceremonial Drill Hall) that sold soft drinks snacks COFFEE and "Dixie cups" the Sailors (male version)hat for the kiddies for #5 each (don't know if the price has gone up. Just before the ceremony they take them remove them from the floor.

You may also bring your own snacks...but bear in mind that all bags are subject to search :-)

Well, that was a yucky run-on sentence!

I am sorry I have not "formally" introduced myself (though there is nothing very formal about me, yuk,yuk :-)) I have not been on a lot lately as life has been very busy but hope to be back on more regularly soon!

Here is my spiel Folks!

Another veteran mom checking in!
My Sailor PIR’d in 05/2011. He is a Seabee Reservist. I have been an AF (Security Forces) Reservist wife for 27 + years…I know …not Navy…but I am somewhat familiar with military life! We have been through two Deployments. Our son enlisted while Hubby was in Iraq. This site was a Godsend and helped me get through not only our sons BC experience but my husbands and my separation for 6 months.
I am a “veteran” mom on the PIR groups mostly and have been on them now for over a year and we have 7-8 PIR groups running at the same time.

I think the screen that y'all may be thinking about is the one in the PIR hall. It is in the middle of the Hall and video is shown before the ceremony starts with lots of interesting info for the crowd to watch since the hall doors open way before the ceremony.

Here is a pic:

Quick Tip:

Just be careful and do your homework when booking your hotel.

The hotel we booked wanted more money per night for the "Graduation Rate" than what I booked it for on Booking.com.

I got my "letter" today with my son's ship and division number.  It also included his PIR date of May 31st ( If all goes well ).  Hope that does not change. He just left on April 3rd and it seems like it has been forever.  Haven't made reservations yet, was looking at the pamphlet that was included with his letter and the hotels that offer shuttle service don't seem to have very good reviews.  Anybody know which is best?  Thanks for your help.

So excited! We booked a room at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel at Waukegan/Gurnee . Anyone else staying there?

We plan to leave the center of Iowa on Thursday. I think it's about a 7 hour drive from here. :) Hope to meet a bunch of you there!

I received an address for my son from the recruiter but was told to wait on the letter or letter from him. I've not received one. I did send two letters but my next I am sending phone cards so should I wait? I don't wont him not to get mail but what if I send to wrong address.
