Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Krow's Mom, That is the correct coin. The front of the coin is the RTC and the back of the coin is about the Ship. Ship 13 was named after Marvin Shields, he was the first and only SeeBee to receive the Medal of Honor, so hence the reference.
Challenge coins after BC are generally received from others in the Navy, so the recruit coins are a way to start their collection. :)

When I search for "ship 13" from that link the coin displayed also says "Seabee medal of honor winner". Obviously, that is not accurate for everyone in Ship 13 at RTC. Is there a coin specifically for all recruits of ship 13?
And for those reading my previous post, I should clarify...I assumed that a member of a group can get their coin signifying their membership in that group in any manner.

As for Challenge Coins...I read that the coins indicate membership in a group, so if you are a member of the group that the coin signifies then any way that you receive it is fine (even getting it for yourself).
A member of a group may sometimes chose to give a challenge coin for their group to someone who is not a member in order to denote them as an honorary member.
The story that I read behind the challenge is that when members of the group are drinking together if one of them slaps their challenge coin down on the table all the others must do the same and if one can not he must buy the drinks for the others.
