OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Mail this on an index card to your recruit if they are flying out to another base on PIR weekend. Once they get their itinerary they should fill it out and then give it to you at PIR. They won't have this info in time to mail it. They go back to their ship and rack to check out and that is when they should grab it so remind them. This will keep you from ending up at the wrong airport. :)

Please fill this out when you get your final orders and then give it to us at PIR. Do not mail it.

annitad:  Springhill Suites is very close to Sarge's MeetandGreet, as is Courtyard and Residence.  He IS a wealth of info...we have always received rave reviews from the families who have attended his MeetandGreet and used his shuttle service too.

Jana:  Processing into GL A School can take anywhere from a couple to 3-4 hours.  Just depends.  So you can plan to leave RTC once your SR is ready to move over there. They call later for pickup (with a phone card or from a borrowed cell if an existing student lends them one....GL A School students can return from Liberty with their cells).

HaydensMom:  It actually isn't that far for you...about 8.5 miles (15 minutes)....just a little further than the other Residence Inn.  There is a water park close in the area and that tends to "fill up" the "suite" hotels, especially those that have larger suites.  That is probably why you had no luck with the Waukegan Residence Inn.  Water park is really close to that one!

mindshaper: There are pros and cons to both!  We took the shuttle and found it very convenient.  Shuttles (which are actually taxis operating as shuttles that day) bypass the car line into PIR.  So you don't have to leave quite as early if on a shuttle.  People driving need to be in the lines early...unless they use "Sarge's hint" which is to stay left on Buckley, bypass RTC (car line will be on your right) , then u turn or turn around in the train parking lot, head back towards RTC, and turn left into RTC with no problems!  We have heard back from several who have done this and said it was great!  So...it is really up to you.

We had no problem picking up a shuttle after PIR was over.  There is the general PIR shuttle service....and....Sarge's shuttle service, so you would be covered!  You book with both ahead of time (same price, $3/pp each way and sailor returns with you unless moving over to GL A School which would happen shortly after PIR concludes)---I believe that if Sarge takes you from the airport to GL, he includes PIR transportation with that cost, but not sure).  We signed up when we checked into our hotel....didn't know about Sarge then....

We are driving down to PIR. I am wondering if it is more efficient to take a shuttle to PIR or drive our own car. Anyone?

diannep,

We tried to book Residence Inn in Waukegan but they did not have 3 rooms  available..funny because I called the day after I got the official letter! No worries, we have rented a mini van so we will just drive a little further..how far from base is it? We are very used to driving..we live in a rural community and have to travel 12 miles to the nearest Walmart!

Comment by Jana on May 2, 2013 at 2:31pm

Diannep I will make a note about the shuttle now i just need to figure out how long it will take to in process for A school.

We are at Marriott Springhill Suites in Waukegan.  Sarge has been a wealth of info.  He is amazing!
