Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hello All! We got in yesterday, weather is not bad. We took a ride just to see the city- Beautiful! Then we ran into the Navy Pier - very nice! We were blessed to see the Amazing Fireworks Show there; lasted about a good 20 minutes. I did get to video the last minute or so which I will try to post when I get back. Can't wait to see our new Sailor tomorrow!

Congrats to ALL of the sailors of PIR 05/31/2013!  HOOYAH!

Cathy:  If they don't pass their final PFA (fitness), they are supposed to call you and tell you.  SO in that case, no call is good.  If they fail BattleStations, they will go again and pass.  Don't forget to check Facebooks too since some get on the computer before they can get to phones.

You can also call the Public Affairs Office if you received no call to see what the status is of your SR/sailor.  They should be able to tell you.  847 688 2405

nancynature:  I'm not sure at what point they check their seabags/garment bags.  To be safe, you may want to meet him at the time he is bussed out there...he will know this on PIR day.  It may be very early in the morning, so you may want to drop him off at RTC PIR night and head back to your hotel for a few hours of sleep before meeting at the airport.  He may be able to get the boxers into his backpack, which he will have as carryon.

Comment by nancynature on May 29, 2013 at 10:56pm

Diannep - When our Sailor goes to the airport and they go to the USO after checking in do they still have their sea bags or do they get rid of them at check in like us regular folk do? Trying to figure out the best way to get him his boxers and such. He wanted to put them in his sea bag.
