N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Mindshaper it does get easier once they go to a-school. I can text my son and talk to him a lot more. He is adjusting well and I am just adjusting. I still miss not being able to see him, but I realize this is the next phase of our lives. Children grow up and move away. And the ladies on this site are awesome! I have been chatting with the group you saw. They are so welcoming and supportive. You are going to be amazed how much your sailor grows up during bootcamp. PIR will be here before you know it, and I can't even describe the excitement when you get ready to go up there! This experience has been described as an emotional roller coaster and that it is!!

Jana:  If your social has both, take that with your current license.  Don't think you will have a problem then.

what a quick response thanks  I may try to have my middle name added to my lic. and my social has both. I dont want my son to be concerned about this.  name initi  Oh i make things complicated. It will all work out Much appreciated

Jana, It might be an issue, hard to tell (can't always second guess those doing the check in).  We have been told it must match.

The good thing is you can still let your SR know to get the name changed to what it says on your drivers license. The SRs have the opportunity to change and add to the guest list sometime in the last couple of weeks of BC.

To be certain there is no problem do you have any identification that shows complete first and last name? Social Security card, passport? Do you have time to get your drivers license changed to have your full name (first and middle)? If your DL has your full name it would not be a problem.

Guess I am trying to say better have all your bases covered.

Jana - My lic has first name,   middle initial  The list as First name middle initial   Is that a problem ??

Would you clarify this for me...I see the same thing. Sometimes I "see" things though :-) Thanks!

I have a question about the names for PIR. Specifically my name which is not exactly the same as my drivers lic. My lic has first name,   middle initial  The list as First name middle initial   Is that a problem ??

Winski, I totally agree! This site is so great because we are all the same boat (ha ha...no pun intended). Coming here is a bright spot in my day too. I have joined the Pensacola A school group since that is where my son is going. From reading the posts there, I can tell that Navy life becomes the "normal." If that makes sense?? Anyway, it seems that the moms there are used to having their kiddos away...not that they don't miss them, but it is their normal. I think they have been chatting about Dancing with the Stars and exchanging cookie recipes...from what I can tell. I am sure we will all get there. Boot camp is so extreme...the no contact, etc. It is a test for us as well. Hang in there it's May next week! Before we know it the 31st will be here :)
